  • Publication number: 20240116023
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a multi-functional composition including activated carbon that is useful for injection into aqueous mediums such as soil or groundwater for sequestration of contaminants in a contaminated plume. The composition of activated carbon may include physical and chemical properties to enhance mechanism of contaminant physisorption and chemisorption including enhanced adsorption kinetics through manipulation of particle surface area, enhanced capacity and selectivity through controlled pore size distribution and enhanced electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions with contaminants. The multi-functional composition may further include a positively-charged nitrogen-functionalized organic compound and/or moieties that improve the activated carbon's ability to sequester contaminants in a subsurface environment.

  • Publication number: 20240100501
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a multi-functional composition including activated carbon that is useful for injection or other application into soil or groundwater for removal (e.g., via adsorption) of inorganic contaminants in a contaminated plume. The composition of activated carbon may include physical and chemical properties to enhance the mechanism of contaminant physisorption and chemisorption including enhanced electrostatic interactions with contaminants. The multi-functional composition may further include one or more second materials (e.g., contaminant-selective agents) which comprise one or more compounds that improve the activated carbon's ability to sequester or otherwise immobilize inorganic contaminants in a subsurface environment.

  • Patent number: 10900185
Abstract: A modular dike or barrier system includes interconnectable side and corner members having front and rear walls with integrally formed support ribs. Upper, base and side end walls connect and are integral with the front and rear walls. Each of the front and rear walls extends at an acute angle relative to the base wall that is configured to rest against a substratum. The inward acute angle allows for containing and redirecting a surge flow inwardly within an area contained by the barrier system in a direction away from the members. The members are generally plate-like and are configured to allow for horizontal stacking on the substratum. Members can include a selectively collapsible support assembly configured to be retained at central bodies of the respective members and to limit interference during stacking and transport of the members.

  • Patent number: 6276922
Abstract: The technical field of the invention broadly relates to injection molding systems and more particularly to cooling of a core used in a mold of an injection molding machine. Cooling a core involves supplying coolant through a lengthwise supply tube that extends within a hollow bore formed in the core. The coolant flows through the supply tube, exiting as a stream of fluid at an open end of the supply tube where the stream contacts a substantially perpendicular inner surface of the core. The stream of fluid is initially deflected by this inner surface on an axis perpendicular to an axis of the original flow producing a stagnation zone in the stream having zero or relatively low velocity. The stagnation zone is adjacent to a high heat gate area and results in poor cooling of the core tip. The invention solves the problem of stagnation by application of a fluid velocity inducer.

  • Patent number: 6146575
Abstract: An extruder for plasticizing and extruding a material. The extruder is formed from two interfitted orbital scroll members. Material, usually in a solid state, can be fed between the scroll members. As the scroll members are rotated eccentrically with respect to one another, the material is conveyed toward the center of the scroll members within a pocket of ever decreasing volume. This applies shear energy to the material which causes melting. Heaters can be provided in the scroll members to further aid and control the melting. By the time the material reaches the central output, it is in a molten state and can be extruded through an output. A method for extruding, and an injection molding machine using such an extruder to plasticize plastic resin, such as PET, is also described.

  • Patent number: 6079038
Abstract: A method of operating an integrated circuit (IC) tester is disclosed in which an IC is repeatedly tested with respect to a limited number of combinations of values of two variable IC operating parameters (X and Y) to determine the boundary of a two-dimensional range of combinations of values of the X and Y parameters for which the IC passes a test. After finding a combination of X and Y parameter values on the boundary, each combination of parameter values to be tested thereafter is selected by altering either the X or Y parameter value, with the decision based on whether the IC passed the last test and on the manner in which a last tested combination of X and Y parameter values was selected.
