Patent number: 4953062Abstract: A light fixture includes a parabolic reflector, a light source positioned at the focal point of the parabolic reflector and a lens assembly. The lens assembly includes a front lens for transmitting the primary beam reflected from the parabolic reflector. The lens assembly also includes a first lens section including one, two or more lateral focussing elements positioned between the front lens and the edge of the parabolic reflector to intercept omnidirectionally radiated light rays from the light source and to redirect the intercepted light rays into collimated lateral beams to illuminate selected areas at the side of the light fixture.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 1989Date of Patent: August 28, 1990Assignee: Tomar Electronics, Inc.Inventors: Thomas R. Sikora, Robert I. Nagel

Patent number: 4758701Abstract: An indicator light assembly forms part of a push button switch. A base member is formed from a transparent material having a high index of refraction. A shaft is formed on the back of the base member which cooperates with other switch elements and which defines a space in which an indicator lamp is mounted. A concave lens is formed on the back of the base member at the forward end of this space, and a Fresnel lens is formed on the front surface of the base member. A Fresnel plate is positioned over the front of the base member and the optical surfaces thus formed serve to uniformly disperse the light from the indicator lamp.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 1984Date of Patent: July 19, 1988Assignee: Allen-Bradley CompanyInventor: Robert I. Patent number: 4583151Abstract: An illuminated display forming part of a twist type switch is disclosed. An operator display is formed from a transparent material having a high index of refraction. A cylindrical portion is formed on the back of the operator display which is mounted on the switch and defines a space in which an indicator lamp is mounted. A peripheral flange portion is formed forward of and radially outward from the cylindrical portion. The rear surface of the flange portion is contoured with a plurality of prisms which are arranged in the shape of the information to be displayed. The prisms concentrate and collimate the light emitting from the indicator lamp and passing through the cylindrical portion and direct it out the front of the operator display. The transverse cross section of the resulting beam is in the general shape of the display and is readily visible to an observer in front of the display.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1984Date of Patent: April 15, 1986Assignee: Allen-Bradley CompanyInventor: Robert I. Patent number: 4221498Abstract: An improved roadside reflector assembly which when mounted alongside a road is continuously visible by retroreflected light by the driver of a vehicle moving along the road at night-time within a viewing angle of from about 0.degree. to 60.degree. relative thereto, where 0.degree. extends substantially parallelly to a tangent to the road in the region where such reflector assembly is located. Also, such driver continuously sees retroreflected light at any given instant of time while approaching and passing a group of the reflector means so employed and so located, the individual such reflector means being longitudinally spaced from one another along such a road.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 1979Date of Patent: September 9, 1980Assignee: Astro Optics CorporationInventors: Arthur P. Schueler, Robert I. Nagel

Patent number: 4123181Abstract: An improved roadside marker system wherein each individual reflector means is continuously visible by the driver of a vehicle moving along the roads surface at night-time from an angle of 0.degree. to 60.degree. where 0.degree. extends substantially parallelly to a tangent to the road side portion in the region where each respective one of the reflector means is located. Also, such driver continuously sees retroreflected light at any given instant of time while approaching and passing a group of the reflector means so employed and so located.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 1977Date of Patent: October 31, 1978Assignee: Astro Optics CorporationInventors: Arthur P. Schueler, Robert I. Nagel

Patent number: 4115843Abstract: A warning lamp comprising a housing having an annular wall, a bulb having a filament within the confines of the annular wall and a lens closing the end of the annular wall. The lens has a front wall and a peripheral wall surrounding the front wall and telescoped over the annular wall of the housing. A prism is provided on the lens along at least opposed side portions of the peripheral wall of the lens and is constructed and arranged to redirect light from the filament of the bulb in a direction generally at 90.degree. to the axis of the lens.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 1977Date of Patent: September 19, 1978Assignee: Dominion Auto Accessories LimitedInventor: Robert I. Nagel

Patent number: 4080529Abstract: A combination clearance and side marker lamp comprising a generally rectangular housing having a base wall and a peripheral wall surrounding the base wall and having side portions and end portions. Longitudinally spaced light bulbs are mounted within the housing and have at least a portion thereof including the filament below the upper edges of the side and end wall portions of the peripheral wall of the housing. A lens of transparent material is mounted on the housing and has a top wall and peripheral side and end walls. The lens has longitudinally spaced sets of arcuate ribs on the internal surface thereof. The top wall of the lens has a prism at each end thereof adjacent the area of juncture with the end wall constructed and arranged to direct light through said end wall.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1976Date of Patent: March 21, 1978Assignee: Dominion Auto Accessories LimitedInventor: Robert I. Patent number: 4047019Abstract: A combined clearance and marker lamp comprising a generally rectangular housing having a base wall and a peripheral wall surrounding the base wall and having side wall portions and end wall portions. Longitudinally spaced light bulbs are mounted in the housing with at least the filaments of the bulbs beneath the plane of the upper edges of the peripheral wall of the housing. A lens of transparent material is mounted on the housing and has a top wall, side walls and end walls telescoped over the side and end wall portions of the housing. The top wall of the lens has longitudinally spaced sets of arcuate ribs on the inside surface thereof. The top wall has a prism on the inside surface of the top wall adjacent each end wall of the lens for directing light from the bulbs longitudinally outwardly through the end walls. Each side wall of the lens has a second prism on the outer surface thereof to direct the light longitudinally of the lamp.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1976Date of Patent: September 6, 1977Assignee: Dominion Auto Accessories LimitedInventor: Robert I.
