  • Patent number: 7611310
Abstract: A thread-cutting insert includes opposite top and bottom sides as well as front and back sides, the front one of which is formed with a plurality of laterally spaced-apart teeth, which separately have a chip-removing edge in a transition between a clearance surface and a top surface of the individual tooth, one the of the teeth, viz. a final-shaping tooth, having a contour shape that gives the desired profile shape of the thread that is to be generated. At least one downwardly open duct is formed in the bottom side of the cutting insert, which duct extends up to the final-shaping tooth and ends adjacent to the same. Advantageously, such ducts are formed for all teeth.

  • Patent number: 7063488
Abstract: In an insert holder for indexable cutting inserts, a clamping device is located which includes an L-shaped member having first and second arms. The first arm is received in a blind hole in the cutting insert and the second arm is actuated by a pressure screw. A free end portion of the second arm has a yoke received in a recessed annular waist portion of the screw so that movement of the screw causes the L-shaped member to rotate and push the insert downwardly against a base surface and laterally against an upright support surface. The insert has a central elevated plateau on its top side to enable a depth of the blind hole to be maximized.

  • Publication number: 20040101373
Abstract: According to the invention, an insert holder (10) exists for indexable cutting inserts. In connection with the insert seat, a clamping device is located, including an L-shaped toggle joint (18) of which one arm (21) is received in a hole (13) in the cutting insert and of which the second arm (22) is actuated by end pressure member (19). Characteristic of the invention is that the hole (13) in the cutting insert is a blind hole and that the end portion of the arm (22) co-operating with the member (19) has a V-shaped cavity (23) in order to enclose a waist portion (24) of the member (19).

  • Patent number: 6733215
Abstract: A cutting insert intended for heavy turning operations has a top side, a bottom side, a front surface disposed between the top and bottom sides, and a cutting edge disposed in the area between the top side and the front surface. The cutting insert includes a comparatively thick front part having a chip breaker positioned behind the edge and a rear part, which is thinner than the front part and tapers rearwardly therefrom. Disposed in the top side of the rear part is a recess for receiving a clamping unit to fix the cutting insert in a co-operating sear of a holder.

  • Patent number: 6146065
Abstract: A cutting insert enables the use of one single type of insert to achieve close tolerances and good surface finish in a bar peeling tool. The insert includes convexly curved corners, between which are disposed flat interconnecting surfaces. The chip face has an elevated plateau, portions of which extend to respective corners. On one side of a bisector of the corner, the plateau section is of concave shape, and on the other side of the bisector the plateau section is of convex shape.

  • Patent number: 5743681
Abstract: An indexable cutting insert for metal machining, in particular turning, is formed with banana- or C-shaped protrusions (11) adjacent to each operative cutting corner. The concave side of the protrusion faces in a direction towards the cutting corner. In comparison with corresponding inserts without such a protrusion a better chip control is achieved. Thus, the chip flow is led away from the machined surface both at small and large cutting depths and the chips are broken into suitable lengths.
