  • Patent number: 7158508
Abstract: A method of setting up calls over circuit-switched and packet-switched resources on a single network having the steps of receiving a request from a user for a call having one or more resources, and allocating the one or more resources among packet-switched, resources and circuit-switched resources associated with a communication network to set up the call. The call may be a multi-media call. Resources may be allocated based on one or more call characteristics that may be in a request for resources by the user.

  • Patent number: 6724732
Abstract: Computers that exchange data over communication networks frequently wait for responses to messages and therefor use timers to control the amount of time that the computer will wait for a response to a command issued over a network. Communication network responsiveness varies as traffic loading on the network changes. Fixed-value timers that don't take network loading into account can inadvertently terminate communications if a response is not timely received. Varying or adjusting data communication timers according to data network responsiveness can prevent erroneous data communication session termination.

  • Publication number: 20030117999
Abstract: A method of setting up calls over circuit-switched and packet-switched resources (117 and 121) on a single network comprising the steps of receiving (601) a request from a user for a call comprised of one or more resources and allocating (607 and 619) the one or more resources among packet-switched resources and circuit-switched resources associated with a communication network to set up the call. The call may be a multi-media call. Resources may be allocated based on one or more call characteristics that may be in a request (503) for resources by the user.

  • Patent number: 5530724
Abstract: Echo cancellation can be enabled to cancel echoes on an outbound transmission path based on original signals on an inbound transmission path. A controller of echo canceler enablement monitors digitized control information contained in call origination messages associated with the establishment of communications. A determination of the type of digitized information to be carried by a two-way communication channel is made. The controller causes the echo canceler to be enabled or disabled on a per-call basis based on the type of digitized information. A stand-alone echo canceler provides automatic enablement/disablement on a per-call basis based on the type of digitized information to be carried on a communication channel as determined by monitoring associated control messages.
