  • Patent number: 4654103
Abstract: A method of bonding propellant to the insulation in a motor chamber by use f an adhesive and powder granule layer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 5, 1985
Date of Patent: March 31, 1987
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy
Inventors: West F. Pehrson, Robert J. Baczuk
  • Patent number: 4386978
Abstract: A crosslinked binder for crosslinked single and double base propellant is provided. The binder is prepared from nitrocellulose, certain polyester diols which contain both aliphatic and aromatic ester functionality and a polyfunctional isocyanate having an NCO functionality of at least three. The propellant prepared from the binder exhibits improved mechanical property aging characteristics under conditions of high humidity.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 11, 1980
Date of Patent: June 7, 1983
    Assignee: Hercules Incorporated
Inventors: Robert J. Baczuk, Anderson E. Robinson, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4061511
Abstract: The use of an aluminum silicate molecular sieve as a stabilizer in propelts that give off gas during the aging process. An aluminum silicate molecular sieve is added to propellants that give off gases such as N.sub.2, CO.sub.2, CO, F.sub.2 and NO.sub.x during the aging process. The aluminum silicate molecular sieve is selected to have a pore size of less than about 10 angstroms. This brings about absorption of these undesirable gases during the aging process and thereby prevents degradation of the propellant.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 2, 1976
Date of Patent: December 6, 1977
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy
    Inventor: Robert J. Baczuk
  • Patent number: 4045261
Abstract: A dual stabilization system for urethane - crosslinked double base propelt. The stabilization system includes N-Methyl-p-Nitroaniline and Aluminum Silicate molecular sieve. The two stabilizers function in a complementary fashion wherein the N-Methyl-p-Nitroaniline reacts with and makes harmless the nitrogen (III) oxide during the propellant aging process. The Aluminum Silicate molecular sieve is selected to have a pore size of more than about 10 angstroms and reacts with and makes harmless the nitrogen (V) oxides, primarily nitric acid, during the propellant aging process.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 2, 1976
Date of Patent: August 30, 1977
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy
