    Abstract: A digital controller has a plurality of separate control algorithms stored in its memory. A set point value and a process variable value are each continually sampled. Each sample is compared to the previous sample and one of the plurality of separate control algorithms is chosen based on stored criteria and the differences between the sampled and stored values.
