  • Patent number: 6464383
Abstract: A surgical task light is provided including a light source adapted to generate light. An elongate optical fiber carries the light generated by the light source to a remote target site. The optical fiber includes a proximal end for receiving the light generated by the light source and a distal end for emitting the light. A support member supports the optical fiber relative to the ceiling of an associated operating room and holds the optical fiber in a plurality of selected positions. A lens device is carried on the distal end of the optical fiber for focusing the light emitted from the distal end of the optical fiber into a desired selected pattern. A sterile sheath member in combination with the surgical task light provides a sterile barrier between the surgical area and the mechanical and optical portions of the task light. A re-lamping module includes a replaceable light bulb module carrying a light bulb to help facilitate replacement of the light bulb by maintenance personnel.

  • Patent number: 6203590
Abstract: An evacuation system is provided for removing smoke generated during a surgical procedure performed in a surgical room. The evacuation system includes a pre-filter assembly and a replaceable filter cartridge module disposed in the surgical room to permit replacement of used filter cartridge modules with new filter cartridge modules by personnel within the surgical room. A vacuum generator is disposed outside of the surgical room and includes a vacuum pump for establishing an air flow through the replaceable filter cartridge module. The pre-filter assembly includes an elongate flexible suction hose that is adapted for manipulation into position adjacent the medical procedure. A mechanical connection mechanism enables pre-filter assemblies to be easily replaced between each surgical procedure. An accumulated filter usage circuit calculates a quantity of filter capacity available and generates a filter loading signal based on the available capacity.

  • Patent number: 6196649
Abstract: A convertible medical appliance support apparatus includes a box-shaped hollow main body portion A suspended from overhead by a support apparatus B. A horizontal support table C extends forward from the front face of the vertical main body column to form a platform for supporting associated medical equipment. Multiple gas connections D are provided the main body portion together with a manual handle E near the bottom of the main column on a side of the column opposite from the support table to provide a convenient point to grip and move the body column into a desired position. Manually actuatable controls are provided at the handle, including brake release pushbuttons I and a motorized height adjustment toggle switch J. Multiple electrical connections F are included on the main body together with optional shelves G selectively attachable below the main platform.
