  • Publication number: 20080229620
Abstract: A two piece fastener for securing at least one sole member to a metal cleat to provide better traction in footwear is disclosed. The fastener comprises a pin member and a sleeve member having an internal locking mechanism. In exemplary embodiments, the internal locking mechanism is defined by axial movement of the pin to engages a sleeve stop shoulder in a through bore located in the sleeve moving it radially inward into the internal locking section of the pin. After the internal locking section has been substantially filled, the pin and sleeve are locked together stopping movement of the pin. The fastener provides both water resistance and easy removability with the use of a tool.

  • Patent number: 7293339
Abstract: A low swage load fastening system is provided for installing swage-type fasteners to secure a plurality of workpieces together. The fastener includes a pin member having an elongated pin shank to be located in aligned openings in the workpieces. An enlarged head at one end of the pin engages one side of the workpieces. A grooved pin portion extends past an opposite side of the workpieces. A collar includes a shank portion adapted to be swaged into the pin lock grooves in response to a relative axial swage load applied by an installation tool. As one aspect of the system, the collar is as-headed and does not require thermal processing yet provides an optimum balance of reduced collar shank wall thickness and increased hardness, whereby the swage load is minimized. A low swage load thread form for the lock grooves of the pin is also provided, a reduced diameter, relatively short pull portion pin extension, installation tool improvements, and an associated method of use are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6241443
Abstract: A fastener includes a pin and a collar for engaging the pin. The pin includes a pin head for engaging one exposed surface of the workpieces and a pin shank for positioning through a bore in the workpieces. The pin shank includes a second working second working edge, a second locking groove, a first working edge, a first locking groove, a breakneck groove and a pin tail having a plurality of pulling grooves. The collar includes an enlarged head and a through bore. The collar is placed over the pin shank and an installation tool is used to grip the pulling grooves. The installation tool forces the presses the collar onto the pin. As this happens, the first working edge engages the through bore of the collar and moves material from the through bore into the first locking groove to create a lock between the collar and the pin.

  • Patent number: 4597263
Abstract: An improved pneumatic-hydraulic actuated single action pull type installation tool for installing pull type fasteners is disclosed which includes a continuously pressurized fluid reservoir operative to maintain a minimum positive pressure on the hydraulic circuit during operation so as to protect the integrity of the hydraulic circuit during normal operating pressure fluctuations and to reduce the possibility of air being drawn into the hydraulic system during sudden pressure drops in the actuating pressure chamber which may occur at the time the pintail portion is separated from the fastener. Further, the reservoir provides a source of make up hydraulic fluid to replace any fluid which may be lost due to leakage. Suitable valves are provided to enable the reservoir to selectively communicate with both driving and return portions of the hydraulic circuit while still enabling selective pressurization thereof.

  • Patent number: 4299519
Abstract: A two piece pull-type fastener is disclosed herein comprising a pin and collar adapted to be swaged into locking engagement with the pin upon setting of the fastener by application of a pulling force to the pin and reaction force on the collar. The pin is provided with a minimum number of pull grooves defined by alternating crests and valleys which grooves are sufficient in strength to allow an installation tool to exert a pulling force on the pin of a magnitude required to properly set the fastener. The installation tool has a gripping structure adapted to engage the pull grooves. The gripping structure and pull grooves are complementarily shaped so as to prevent engagement of less than all of the pull grooves by the gripping structure of the tool in order to prevent stripping of the pull grooves if less than all are attempted to be engaged. Thus an installation tool nose assembly is also disclosed which nose assembly is uniquely designed for use with the present fastener.
