  • Patent number: 6036864
Abstract: An economical process for reducing water consumption and, therefore, water discharge during the dyeing of textile goods is disclosed. Processing baths during dyeing, which can be reused directly or after minimal treatment, are segregated from baths which contain a high level of pollutants and color. The reuse baths are combined and stored separately from baths which are to be discharged. The reuse baths are then recycled directly or after minimal treatment to the dyeing process. Baths containing a high level of pollutants and color are either discharged directly to the local public treatment works or are treated in a conventional wastewater treatment plant. The process results in substantial economic benefits because the operating costs of recycling reuse baths are low and because the quantity of wastewater discharged is substantially reduced.

  • Patent number: 4749580
Abstract: A method for continuously preparing a carbonated liquid is disclosed wherein a liquid is exposed to an atmosphere of carbon dioxide gas as ultrathin liquid sheets. The extremely high surface areas so exposed, coupled with turbulence within the liquid sheets, allow for high carbonation levels in just a few milliseconds. Since the carbonation of the liquid occurs on a scale of microns of liquid thickness, the carbonation is extremely uniform and subsequent liquid mixing or stabilization time is usually not required. Further, since the carbonation occurs on a time scale of milliseconds, the carbonator pressure vessel is very compact compared to its liquid throughput.

  • Patent number: 4735359
Abstract: Two or more liquids are mixed continuously in very short times and in a highly uniform manner. Thin sheets of the liquids to be mixed are formed and contacted to produce a new mixed sheet. The newly formed mixed sheet is highly turbulent which substantially enhances mixing. Since the contacting of the liquids occurs on a scale of microns of thickness, mixing is not only rapid but complete and extremely uniform as well. Turbulence within the mixed sheet that further enhances mixing allows for mixing times as low as 0.1 millisecond, depending on flowrate and pressure drop, for low viscosity fluids.
