    Abstract: A vehicle scoff plate assembly may have an outer closure panel, an inner closure panel fastened to the outer closure panel, a first striker mounting bracket fastenable to the inner closure panel, a first striker mounted to the first striker mounting bracket, and a scuff plate fastened to the outer closure panel that surrounds the first striker. A second striker mounting bracket is fastenable to the inner closure panel and a second striker is mountable to the second striker mounting bracket. The second striker mounting bracket is configured in a different angular position to orient the second striker in a different position than the first striker. The inner closure panel and outer closure panel both mount to the vehicle underbody. With different striker mounting brackets mountable to the inner closure panel, a standard vehicle underbody may be utilized and result in fewer or no vehicle underbody production line changes.

The control methodology includes an obstacle detection routine which detects obstacles in two directions of travel. The control methodology does not require the power drive mechanism or inertia to cause the latch mechanism to latch the sliding door in the latched condition.

    Abstract: A power latching mechanism having a latch ratchet, a pawl member, a latch sector and a drive assembly. The latch ratchet is configured to selectively engage or disengage a member to secure the vehicle door to or release the vehicle door from the vehicle body. The latch ratchet is operable between a fully unlatched position and a fully latched position. The latch sector is pivotably coupled to the latch ratchet and is operable between a first extended position, a neutral position and a second extended position. The drive assembly is coupled to the latch sector and operable for selectively moving the latch sector from the neutral position to the first and second extended positions. Placement of the latch sector in the neutral position does not effect the operation the latch ratchet. Accordingly, the latch ratchet may be actuated manually to either latch or unlatch the vehicle door when the latch sector is in the returned position.

    Abstract: A power drive mechanism for a power vehicle sliding door system is provided. The power drive mechanism includes a hinge member adapted for coupling to a vehicle sliding door, a guide member adapted for coupling to a vehicle body, a rack member adapted for coupling to a vehicle body, a drive pinion meshingly engaging the rack member, a drive motor producing a drive torque and a gear train coupling the drive motor and the drive pinion for transmitting drive torque therebetween. The hinge member and guide member cooperate to guide the vehicle sliding door in both generally horizontal and generally vertical directions. The gear train and drive pinion are preferably coupled to said hinge member to maintain meshing engagement of said drive pinion along the length of said rack member. The power drive mechanism also preferably includes a drive clutch for interrupting the transmission of drive torque from the drive motor to the drive pinion to permit the vehicle sliding door.

    Abstract: A stabilizer for firmly holding a sliding door of an automotive vehicle in a closed position. The stabilizer has a female part adapted to be secured to the “B” pillar of the vehicle and a male part adapted to be secured to the door. The female part has a socket portion to receive a projection on the male part. The socket portion is in the form of a pocket having spaced confronting side walls and a bottom wall. Each side wall has spaced slots extending from the opening of the pocket toward the bottom wall. Ribs of an elastomeric material are bonded in the slots and press against the projection on the male part when the door is closed and the projection enters the pocket.

    Abstract: An apparatus that stabilizes vehicle sliding doors when transitioning to and from a closed position, wherein the sliding door is guided along a track by a guide wheel contacting internal surfaces of the track. The apparatus stabilizes the sliding door by limiting movement of the guide wheel in cross-car and vertical directions. The apparatus is coupled to the track and limits movement of the guide wheel by contacting a shaft of the guide wheel as well as top and bottom surfaces of the guide wheel. Shaft and bottom surface contact is provided by a plurality of parallel members extending along a first and second side of the shaft of the guide wheel. Top surface contact of the guide wheel is provided by a longitudinal member, preferably having a longitudinal cavity for energy absorption and dissipation. The plurality of parallel members further define a curved receptacle which substantially mates with the shaft of the guide wheel.

    Abstract: A guide assembly for a motor vehicle having a sliding door includes a track having longitudinally extending grooves in opposite surfaces thereof and disposed horizontally on the vehicle. The guide assembly also includes a support bracket having one end connected with the sliding door and another end including a bearing housing. The bearing housing has a longitudinal slot including sides having spacedly opposed bearing pockets. A plurality of ball bearings is rotatably mounted in the opposed bearing pockets and engages the longitudinally extending grooves in the opposite surfaces of the track for supporting and guiding the support bracket and sliding door for movement relative to the vehicle.
