  • Patent number: 4535619
Abstract: Rotary bending apparatus provides a die assembly particularly advantageous for use in press brakes featuring a punch embodying a separable part so constructed and arranged as to render it per se capable of providing the punch with any one of a plurality of operating surface portions which differ in configuration by changing its relative orientation and disposition. It also features, in cooperation with and in opposed relation to the punch, an assembly providing a rotary bending tool comprising a notched rotor contained for rotation in and with respect to a saddle, which is contained, in turn, by and for movement relative to a base member in a construction and arrangement wherein the relative position of the saddle and the rotor may be precisely and quickly gaged by a segment of the sheet material to be worked between the punch and the rotor of the opposed rotary bending tool.

  • Patent number: 4434644
Abstract: A bending and forming device is disclosed having an operating head and its holder features a holder which is a multi part structure including a saddle for seating the head and a releasably connected gib, a limited portion of which is adapted to releasably bear on and hold the head to and for a rocking or rotative movement thereof on its seat. The head is preferably a cylindrical body having a groove the length of its outer peripheral surface, the bounding walls of which groove determine the operation to which the head may be applied. The retention device is connected to the saddle so as to enable an easy adjustment of its position to accommodate variation in the dimension of the operating head or wear of the related parts. In preferred embodiments the saddle affords a concentrated load bearing surface for the head provided by relatively narrow, adjacent and relatively spaced, longitudinally extended, strip-like bearings.

  • Patent number: 4387583
Abstract: Bending and forming apparatus comprises an anvil adapted for use in a press in conjunction with a die connected to an opposed portion of the press, to form and bend material interposed therebetween as the press closes during its cyclic operation. The anvil includes a plurality of elements each of which is normally fixed to form an extension of another by an embodied locking device. In its extended condition the anvil is a rigid unitized structure of substantially fixed length. The locking device is constructed and arranged to release to provide the elements as hard tooling of reduced length as bending and forming of the material worked thereby proceeds, to set the bent and formed configuration of the material worked. A trigger device is included for triggering the release of the locking device to provide for reduction in length of the anvil. The bending and forming apparatus provides hard tooling in both its original condition and when reduced in length.

  • Patent number: 4334714
Abstract: A plate-like element for insertion in a bore or recess to provide a fixing or bearing surface for a shaft or a shaft-like portion of an element includes a laterally centered section having the configuration of a short longitudinally oriented section of a cylindrical wall structure. This laterally centered section, which is correspondingly bowed, has wing-like plate portions at its remote lateral extremities which are co-planar. The remote lateral extremities of the wing-like portions are thinned at their leading edges, having regard for the direction of application of the plate-like element in use. The bowed portion is distinguished at its outer convex surface by an elongated, laterally centered, projection having essentially parallel sides the outermost surface portion of which is flatly arcuate in transverse cross-section and the leading end of which is also arcuate in configuration.

  • Patent number: 4277994
Abstract: For use in combination with a die plate having through bores, matrix means for mounting to the die plate including die means for cooperation with tools of a die assembly to function therewith to work material fed therebetween, one end of said matrix means being constituted by a matrix segment the external dimension of which is greater than that of the through bores in the die plate, the matrix means also including a mounting segment dimensioned for a press fit within a through bore of the die plate, providing thereby that the outer peripheral portion of the matrix segment will seat on the die plate. The matrix means has a passage therethrough at least a defined portion of the length of which within the matrix segment has a uniform cross sectional area. The operating surface portion of said matrix means, provided by said matrix segment, positions outermost from the die plate to which it is applied to define a limited matrix surface displaced from the die plate.

  • Patent number: 4214793
Abstract: A plate segment for insertion in a hole, cavity or recess to position and/or lock a shaft-like portion of an object within and/or with reference to its bounding wall structure has preferred embodiments comprising plate segments formed of sheet metal in a stamping operation including tooth-like projections. Depending upon the embodiment the tooth-like projections may extend from either or both faces of the plate segments and/or its lateral extremities. The tooth-like projections are formed to provide teeth portions of which are skewed to facilitate the application and anchoring of the segment. In a particularly preferred configuration the plate segment comprises a leading end, a trailing end and side edge portions, the roots of which side edge portions are generally parallel and bound a main body portion of the plate segment which is curved on a uniform radius, in a lateral sense, to provide that the respectively remote faces thereof are formed to resemble a longitudinal portion of a cylindrical surface.

  • Patent number: 4171656
Abstract: The invention is directed to a retainer having a primary bore and a secondary bore parallel thereto with a web therebetween, a tool or die element having a shaft-like portion and also a flange on one end, a groove in the shaft-like portion, said groove extending through said flange to provide a V-shaped notch therein, a frangible rod-like element adapted to project into the secondary bore while positioned in the groove and notch to properly guide and orient said tool in the retainer.
