    Abstract: The present invention is for a radiation transmitter which transmits radiation to an illumination spot for forming reflected radiation. The transmitter includes a plurality of radiation transmission sources. Each of the sources transmits to a portion of the illumination spot. The transmitter includes means for alternately activating a portion of the transmission sources to illuminate a portion of the illumination spot for aligning a radiation receiver to receive the reflected radiation.Each resident of network transmits in turn its address and the address of each resident that it recognizes. Once a prospective resident can recognize each resident of the network it announces that it is joining the network and states its new address and the address of each resident it can see. Every resident then amends its list of recognized residents to include the new member.

    Abstract: An infrared RS 232 communication link protocol is particularly suited for correcting any errors introduced during a transmission of information. The information is transmitted from a transmitting station to a receiving station. Each of the stations has a control counter each of which toggles between a logic 0 and 1. The control counter for the transmitter and the receiver are phase locked so that all errors may be corrected. The receiver echoes each data bit back to the transmitter which compares the echoed data to the transmitted data. If there is a match, the transmission was successful. If there is no match, the data must be retransmitted. A retransmit control character RTXx is sent to indicate that the receiver should discard the previous character and prepare for a retransmission of the character having the error. Under the proper circumstances and if the counters are still phase locked, the receiver then discards the previously stored character and inverts the counter.

    Abstract: Line broadening is eliminated in dry heat-developed films by using a development temperature which is higher than the manufacturer-recommended standard temperature, so that a much shorter development time can be used, and masking the edges of the film to prevent exposure thereof. The hot/short development cycle and the masking of the film edges substantially eliminate image smearing caused by emulsion shrinkage and migration.

    Abstract: A lead screw driven by a motor has a drive nut threadably connected to the lead screw for reciprocation therealong. The drive nut is rotationally restrained thereby limiting its movement along the axis of the lead screw. Three disk members each having an opening through their centers are positioned on the lead screw. The two outer disk members each have at least a pair of bearing members, such as ball bearings, positioned along a diameter of the disk on adjacent sides of the opening. A keeper member is positioned on the lead screw to sandwich the three disk members between the drive nut and the keeper member. Indexing members are positioned on the drive nut and the keeper member to maintain the diameters of the two outer disks, having the bearings mounted therein, orthogonal with respect to each other.

    Abstract: Each of a plurality of message terminal units (10, 12, 14, 16) has a keyboard (20) for entry of data, a visual display (22) for display of entered and received data, and a logic system (FIG. 4) for processing received and transmitted messages. Each unit stores in a CPU (52) a dedicated user terminal identification. Each transmitted message is annexed to a destination terminal identification and said user terminal identification (FIG. 5). Only a unit with a stored user identification identical to the destination identification in a transmitted message can receive and display transmitted messages. Upon receipt of a message, a terminal sends an automatic response to the sending terminal, which provides an appropriate indication to the sender. The receiver can send a manual acknowledgement (42) to the sender, which causes the message to be cleared from the sender's display.
