  • Patent number: 6597774
Abstract: The present invention provides an alert to a user after a predetermined amount of time has elapsed for a particular communication. The timing for the alert may be set by the user at the beginning of each call, or may be automatically configured during the initiation of a call or communication. Control of the alert and the respective timing preferably occurs at a local call control center, such as a central office switch in the public telephone system, or a mobile switching center in a wireless system. For voice communications, the alert is preferably audible. Alternatively, for data communications, the alert is configured to effect an audible, visual, or otherwise perceptible alert on the user's interface.

  • Patent number: 6523930
Abstract: A self-cleaning ink jet printer with cleaning mechanism and method of cleaning the ink jet printer. The printer comprises a print head having a surface thereon surrounding a plurality of ink ejection orifices. The orifices are in communication with respective ones of a plurality of ink channels formed in the print head. A solvent delivering canopy is constructed from alternating stacked layers of polyimide and stainless steel sheets with internal geometries, one on top of each other, thus creating internal fluidic passageways. The canopy is connected to a manifold body and has a passageway alignable with the surface. Contaminant residing on the surface is entrained in the solvent when a wiper blade loosens contaminant from the surface. Per an applied vacuum, the canopy vacuums the solvent and entrained contaminant from the surface.

  • Publication number: 20020085058
Abstract: A self-cleaning in ink jet printer (10) with cleaning mechanism (170) and method of cleaning the ink jet printer. The printer (10) comprises a print head (60) having a surface (95) thereon surrounding a plurality of ink ejection orifices (90). The orifices (90) are in communication with respective ones of a plurality of ink channels (70) formed in the print head (60). A canopy (185) is constructed from alternating stacked layers (185a, 185b, 185c, 185d, 185e) of polyimide and stainless steel sheets with internal geometries, one on top of each other thus creating internal fluidic passageways. The solvent delivering canopy (185) is connected to a manifold body (180) and has a passageway (234) alignable with the surface (95). Contaminant residing on the surface is entrained in the solvent when a wiper blade (225) loosens contaminant from the surface (95). The canopy (185) also has a passageway (236) alignable with the surface (95).

  • Patent number: 5299082
Abstract: An apparatus and method to compensate the outer actuator arms of a disk drive actuator assembly from an imbalanced moment to maintain a selected preload force. The present invention advantageously utilizes thin actuator arms to hold read/write head assemblies. During disk drive operation, the outer actuator arm receives an unbalanced outward moment originating from the flying read/write head associated with the outer actuator arm. This unbalanced outward moment is balanced by initially displacing the outer read/write heads inward so that they are not aligned straight. This special alignment creates an additional preload force which is decreased to a normal preload force when the outer actuator arm is returned to a straight alignment by said imbalanced moment. The present invention maintains a uniform preload value and therefore uniform read/write head flying height.

  • Patent number: 4748988
Abstract: A method and apparatus for monitoring wear associated with a particular cyclically moving part in a machine, the machine comprising a plurality of moving parts and operating in a succession of cycles. Apparatus is provided for generating a first signal at a predetermined position and direction of movement of the moving part, for generating a second signal at a predetermined cyclic position in each machine cycle, for producing a third signal indicative of the interval of time between the first signal and the second signal, and for forming a comparison with a reference signal to determine the extent of wear associated with the particular moving part.

  • Patent number: 4496055
Abstract: A cigarette packing machine with a plurality of passageways leading from a hopper, includes an ends testing device (16, 16a) for individual cigarettes, so that faulty cigarettes can be rejected from the hopper before the cigarettes are ejected in groups at the bottom of the passageways (2).Leading from the hopper are two channels (6, 8) feeding each of the passageways. In one embodiment of the invention cigarettes are held up for ends testing in alternate channels by suction ports (14) formed in inclined surfaces leading to each passageway. In a second embodiment a set of horizontal reciprocating wires (30, 32) acts as an escapement mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4359152
Abstract: Conveyor control circuit for use at a junction of conveyors at which articles move from one conveyor to another or between a number of conveyors. Speed signals from conveyors whose speeds are dictated by conditions elsewhere in the system are summed to produce a "net flow signal" which is preferably corrected by the addition of a signal from a sensor at the junction, whose sensitivity may be adjusted in accordance with the net flow signal so that the correction is greater when the net flow towards or away from the junction is greater. The controlled conveyor may be used to move articles to or from a reservoir device. Additional speed correction may be applied if the sensor signal is outside a range which varies in size with the net flow signal.

  • Patent number: 4274530
Abstract: Packet handling apparatus includes a conveyor for moving packets in line from a delivery station and a reversible accumulator for receiving batches of packets from or returning batches to the conveyor according to whether supply exceeds demand or vice versa. Gates for supplying movement of packets on the conveyor are provided at the exit from and entry to the accumulator. The conveyor section adjacent the accumulator is separately drivable so that it may be temporarily stopped to create a gap between packets for insertion of the exit gate prior to transferring a batch of packets to the accumulator. Guides may be provided upstream and downstream of the accumulator for moving packets from a flat to an upright condition and vice versa, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4233598
Abstract: Monitoring system for an emergency stop circuit controlling a number of machines in a factory, to determine the location of an actuated stop button. The stop circuit consists of a supply line to a self-latching contactor and there is an emergency stop button in the circuit at each machine. A monitoring line runs parallel to the supply line and is connected to each section between adjacent stop buttons by high value resistors. When a voltage is applied to the supply line a current appears in the monitoring line whose magnitude depends upon the position of the actuated stop button and thus is connected to a voltage which is applied to a series of comparators driving light emitting diodes. Each comparator is provided with a different reference voltage from a resistive chain and since the L.E.D.'s are connected between the outputs of successive comparators along the chain, only the L.E.D. whose position represents the position of the actuated button is illuminated.
