  • Patent number: 9890066
Abstract: Disclosed are combinations of one or more cationic starch(es) and aluminum salts to produce a composition for detackifying paint at lower doses than those required using conventional treatments while providing improved handling and a more “green” environmental profile. The compositions may be utilized in methods of detackifying and dispersing solvent borne paints and/or coagulating/flocculating and dispersing waterborne paints during the treatment of paint spray booth water.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 7, 2011
Date of Patent: February 13, 2018
    Assignee: CHEMTREAT, INC.

  • Patent number: 6306308
Abstract: A coagulant which is the reaction product of a trivalent metal salt (eg., FeCl3), excluding chromium salts, an acid phosphorous compound and an aluminum hydroxy chloride, and a process for preparing such coagulant. This coagulant may be effectively used to remove suspended solids and various impurities in most water treatment applications.

  • Patent number: 5382378
Abstract: A stable blended product comprising a melamine aldehyde, urea aldehyde or melamine-urea aldehyde and colloidal silica is useful as a detackifier for solvent-borne paints and other resinous materials. This product is also useful as a conditioning agent prior to collection of water-borne paints, a treatment for water containing oils or greases, a color-remover in natural waters, and for enhanced removal of suspended solids.

Date of Patent: January 17, 1995
    Assignee: Calgon Corporation
Inventors: Robert J. Guerrini, Paul A. Rey
  • Patent number: 5240509
Abstract: Methods of treating circulating water containing over-sprayed, water-borne paint, alone or in combination with over-sprayed solvent-borne paint, as in a paint spray booth operation, comprise maintaining the alkalinity of the paint spray booth water between about 50 and 2000 ppm, on a calcium carbonate basis, by adding an alkalinity source thereto, maintaining the pH between about 6.0 and 9.0, adding a melamine polymer to the water, adding an aluminum salt to the water, contacting the over-sprayed paints with the alkalinity-adjusted paint spray booth water before or after addition of the melamine polymer and aluminum salt, adding an effective amount of a flocculant to the paint spray booth water, and removing resulting sludge from the paint spray booth water.
