    Abstract: A process is provided for preparing a shape-shifted catalyst component comprising (1) contacting a dihydrocarbyloxide magnesium compound with carbon dioxide in the presence of a slurrying agent to form a slurry of a carboxylated dihydrocarbyloxide magnesium compound; (2) adding a filler to the slurry either before or after the carboxylation of step (1); (3) spray drying the slurry of step (2) to evaporate the slurrying agent and to produce solid particles of the carboxylated dihydrocarbyloxide magnesium compound incorporating the filler; and, optionally, (4) heating the solid particles to remove carbon dioxide to produce a shape-shifted dihydrocarbyloxide magnesium compound component. A catalyst system using the component and a polymerization process employing the catalyst system are also provided.

    Abstract: A process for the gas phase production of a sticky, but fluidizable, polymer comprising (i) introducing at least one gaseous monomer, which is a precursor for the polymer, into a bed of particles located in a fluidized bed reactor at a velocity sufficient to cause the particles to separate and act as a fluid; (ii) introducing into the bed a catalyst adapted to cause the monomer to polymerize; (iii) contacting the catalyst with the monomer at a temperature below the sticking temperature of the polymer and at a temperature and pressure sufficient to polymerize the monomer in the presence of the catalyst whereby the polymer is produced; and (iv) passing the polymer from the fluidized bed reactor into at least one fluid bed reactor wherein a fluidizing gas is passed through a bed of particles at a velocity sufficient to cause the particles to separate and act as a fluid; the polymer is passed through the fluid bed reactor in an essentially plug flow mode; and the polymer is maintained in an agitated state.

    Abstract: Ethylene copolymers having improved optical properties in film form are prepared by continuously copolymerizing ethylene with one or more higher alpha olefin monomers in a low pressure gas phase reaction with a catalyst composition prepared by forming a precursor composition from a magnesium compound, titanium compound, and electron donor compound; diluting said precursor composition with an inert carrier material; optionally partially activating the diluted precursor composition with an organo aluminum compound prior to introducing said diluted precursor composition into the polymerization reactor; and completely activating the diluted (and optionally partially activated) precursor composition in the polymerization reactor with a mixture of a dihydrocarbyl aluminum halide compound and a trihydrocarbyl aluminum compound.
