Patent number: 6227746Abstract: A hanging data binder is provided for a stack of paper. The stack of paper is contained between two end pieces that secure the flexible posts passing through the stack. The end pieces include retractable hooks that serve to secure the flexible posts and provide hooks for the hanging data binder. The retractable hooks are slid outwardly to release the flexible posts and inwardly to store the hooks.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1998Date of Patent: May 8, 2001Assignee: Acco Brands, Inc.Inventors: Robert J. Patent number: 6082771Abstract: An attachment for a folder includes a handle and a boot attachable to a folder. The boot has a boot recess in which a handle body of the handle is received when the handle is in a retracted position, in which the boot surrounds the handle body. A support member of the handle is attached to the handle body and is movably associated with the boot below the boot surface. Thus, the handle body is retractably extendable from the retracted position to an extended position in which the handle body is spaced from the boot back for enabling grasping of the handle body by a user.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1998Date of Patent: July 4, 2000Assignee: Acco Brands, Inc.Inventors: Robert J. Patent number: 6024508Abstract: A folio having a flip-over pad is disclosed. The folio has a front cover, a back cover, and, attached to the back cover, a pad holder into which a note pad or pad of paper may be inserted. The pad holder is configured such that the note pad can be stored between the front and back covers when the folio is closed and access to the pad is not needed or can extend around a front edge of the front cover to lay flat on the front cover when the folio is closed and access to the pad is desired. This configuration allows the folio to be in a normal closed position during use of the pad, rather than having the covers folded back in an extreme position with the cover outside surfaces facing each other.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1998Date of Patent: February 15, 2000Assignee: ACCO Brands, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey S. Lippeth, Robert J. Long

Patent number: 5690268Abstract: A stapler with a storage chamber has an opening which is closable by a removable door or slipper. The slipper includes a flexible perimeter which fits on a frame in the stapler storage chamber. The stapler may further include one or more of the following: i) a device for stabilizing the pivotal connection between the slipper and the base when the slipper is opened and limiting pivotal displacement of the slipper; ii) a retaining device for selectively retaining and releasing the slipper relative to a base of the stapler; iii) a magnetic device for magnetically attaching the stapler to objects; iv) a reinforcement device for supporting an anvil of the stapler and frictionally latching the slipper to the base; and v) an arrangement for frictionally retaining the anvil to the base of the stapler.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 1996Date of Patent: November 25, 1997Assignee: Acco USA, Inc.Inventors: Alfred J. Evans, David Q. Feng, Robert J. Long

Patent number: 5584124Abstract: A sheet punch assembled of a plurality of molded parts having a handle section with a stationary jaw and a trigger section pivotal about the handle section which trigger section has a movable jaw. The handle and trigger are oriented at about a right angle to the sheet to be punched. Punched discs are collected initially in the stationary jaw and caused to thereafter move into a trigger chamber having an exit door.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 1995Date of Patent: December 17, 1996Assignee: ACCO USA, Inc.Inventors: Robert H. Marthaler, Robert J. Long

Patent number: 5412767Abstract: An image processing system in which a source patch (35) of pixels is copied from one region of an image to a destination patch (34) of pixels in response to the movement of a stylus (15) over a touch-tablet (16). Each pixel in the destination patch is modified towards the value of its respective pixel in the source patch, and the extent of modification is controlled by brush profile data (36). In one embodiment the source patch 35 and the destination patch (34) are defined in mutually exclusive regions. In another embodiment the source patch and the destination patch are defined in overlapping regions.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1993Date of Patent: May 2, 1995Assignee: Quantel, Ltd.Inventor: Robert J. Patent number: 5276786Abstract: A video graphics system in which an effect can be produced in selected portions of a image held in a first store. Image data in the first store relating to a user defined area of interest in the image is copied to a second store and processed in accordance with a user selected function. The area of interest is selected by the user by magnifying and shifting a displayed representation of the image so that the area of interest is displayed and then selecting a locking function which retains parameters associated with the shifting and magnifying of the displayed image. Once the image data relating to the area of interest has been processed it can be painted onto the image held in the first store to produce the desired effect. By processing only the selected area of interest the speed of processing is increased.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1992Date of Patent: January 4, 1994Assignee: Quantel LimitedInventors: Robert J. Long, Michael T. Mayer, John S. O'Neill

Patent number: 5225817Abstract: An electronic graphic system is arranged such that data relating to the black separation of an image is made available for modification independently from other data representing the image. In a preferred embodiment black separation data is written into a monochrome framestore 8 and modifications to the separation can be effected by way of a stylus and touch tablet combination 6 and associated drawing circuitry 16.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1990Date of Patent: July 6, 1993Assignee: Quantel LimitedInventor: Robert J. Long

Patent number: 5150311Abstract: A system for producing output print-dot data suitable for hard copy printing devices (10). A first framestore (11) stores first intensity-related pixel data at a first resolution, which is converted to first higher resolution print-dot data by a print-dot generator (17,18). A control store (19) stores one-bit control data at the said higher resolution and the output print data is selected from the first print-dot data or from a second source of print dot data in response to the control data. Both sources of print-dot data may be derived from intensity related pixel data generated on an electronic graphic system such as a PAINTBOX (Registered Trade Mark). The high resolution data may also be generated by the system and displayed electronically with full color graphics.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 1991Date of Patent: September 22, 1992Assignee: Quantel LimitedInventors: Robert J. Long, Barry D. R. Miles

Patent number: 4829455Abstract: A graphic system for producing printed images. The signals representing the image are produced as CMY (cyan, magenta, yellow) printing color component signals and transformed to RGB (red, green, blue) signals for display on a monitor. The transformation circuit is a matrix of arithmetic circuits including look-up tables. The system can also be conditioned so that RGB signals are first produced and these transformed to CMY.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1987Date of Patent: May 9, 1989Assignee: Quantel LimitedInventors: Robert J. Long, Alan L. Stapleton

Patent number: 4593316Abstract: A system for processing images typically still images from a slow scan source such as associated with an electron microscope. The analogue source is converted into digital form via an ADC and passes via an adder to a framestore. An output of the framestore is also received by the adder. The capacity of the framestore is sufficiently large to accommodate several hundred summed frames. The image is built up by using all the stored information and all the incoming information. A divider under the control of a frame counter automatically corrects for intensity as the summation of frames progresses, the result being available for monitoring via a digital to analogue converter. Additional mechanisms are disclosed for dealing with other aspects associated with differing frame rates.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 1984Date of Patent: June 3, 1986Assignee: Micro Consultants LimitedInventors: Paul R. N. Kellar, Robert J. Long
