  • Publication number: 20100229596
Abstract: The article of jewelry includes a hollowed out portion in a body of such article into which a sealed transparent container is inserted. The article of jewelry also has an opening through one of its faces to expose the hollowed out portion. The transparent container is sealed after a substance with special significance is inserted into the container.

  • Publication number: 20030169473
Abstract: Apparatus and method for 3R regeneration of optical digital signals in which a modulator, preferably an electroabsorption modulator, is driven by an electrical clock synchronised with optical input pulses (preferably by a phase-locked-loop controller) and is located downstream of a 2R regenerator so as to receive its output.

  • Patent number: 6344913
Abstract: A clock signal at a divided clock rate is obtained from an optical signal stream at a higher clock rate. The optical signal stream at the higher clock rate is applied to an all-optical non- linear gate. There is feedback from the first output of the gate to its control input. The optical signal at a divided clock rate is present at a second output of the gate. The gate may comprise a non-linear loop mirror. A number of such gates may be cascaded in series to provide an output at a clock rate divided by 2n, where n is an integer.

  • Patent number: 5999293
Abstract: An optical switch includes a semiconductor gain medium and inputs for an optical control signal applied to the semiconductor gain medium. The switch has a pair of arms (31, 32) arranged in a Mach-Zehnder configuration. A semiconductor gain medium (SOA1, SOA2) is connected in each arm. A fixed phase shifting element PE is also connected in one arm. Control signals are applied to each of the semiconductor gain media. There is a delay between the control signals selected so that a desired one of the optical pulses experiences a differential phase shift and so we switch to a different output of the multiplexer. In one example, the semiconductor gain media are provided by discrete semiconductor devices sandwiched between a pair of planar substrate on which waveguides forming the other components of the switch are formed. The switch may be used for demultiplexing OTDM signals.

  • Patent number: 5742415
Abstract: A non-linear optical switch includes a semiconductor optical gain medium. The switch is arranged to switch a signal at a first wavelength in response to a control signal at a second wavelength applied to the optical gain medium. The refractive index of the gain medium is modified in response to the control signal. An optical holding signal at a third wavelength is applied to the gain medium. The optical holding signal pumps the optical gain medium and thereby fixes the Fermi level. The switch may be embodied in OTDM demultiplexers, clock recovery circuits, wavelength converters and other devices.
