  • Publication number: 20210252173
Abstract: Methods are provided for treating a subject having, or at risk of, a lysosomal storage disease, particularly Tay-Sachs, Gaucher disease, Sandhoff disease or Niemann-Pick disease, neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis, or a condition associated with impaired Phospholipase A2 Group VI (PLA2G6) activity, particularly infantile neuroaxonal dystrophy or PLA2G6 associated neurodegeneration (PLAN), or a sleeping disorder, using a substituted polyunsaturated fatty acid, polyunsaturated fatty acid ester, polyunsaturated fatty acid thioester, fatty acid amide, polyunsaturated fatty acid mimetic, polyunsaturated fatty acid pro-drug, or combinations thereof, where the substituted compound comprises at least one substitution that reduces oxidation of the compound. Preferably, the substituted compound is a deuterated polyunsaturated fatty acid, or an ethyl ester thereof, such as 11,11-D2-linoleic acid, 11,11-D2-linoleic acid ethyl ester, 11,11,14,14-D4-linolenic acid, or 11,11,14,14-D4-linolenic acid ethyl ester.

  • Patent number: 5227205
Abstract: This invention provides improved means for displaying and preserving specimens of various kinds, such as flower blossoms. The medium for encapsulating the specimen is a resin material which, when fully cured, is soft and pliable, having a cone penetration value of about 80 to about 400 (10-.sup.1 mm) (ASTM D217-68 or D1403-69) and an ultimate elongation of at least about 100% (ASTM D638-80 or D412). This invention also provides a system for collecting specimens, preserving and dehydrating them, and transporting them to another site where the specimens are encapsulated in the soft, pliable resin for final preservation and display.

  • Patent number: 4384906
Abstract: A method for holding together the opposing ends of a flat sheet wrapped around an elongate substrate employs one or more closure devices, each closure device comprising a pair of frictional elements and a means for interengaging same. The frictional elements each have a channel member having a slit and a rod member positionable within said channel member, which when so positioned cooperates therewith to provide a conduit thereinbetween and to apply frictional forces to one end of the flat sheet when the end has been inserted through the slit and is in position between the rod member and the channel member. The closure is especially suited for joining elastomeric flat sheet, the sheet and closure device or devices collectively providing a protective closure.
