  • Patent number: 8485048
Abstract: A torque transfer coupling includes a shaft and a first second set of hydraulic devices. Each hydraulic device of the first set of hydraulic devices has a first end operably connected to a first end of the shaft, wherein the hydraulic devices of the first set of hydraulic devices are disposed about an axis of the shaft. Each hydraulic device of the second set of hydraulic devices has a first end operably connected to a second end of the shaft, and wherein the hydraulic devices of the second set of hydraulic devices are disposed about the axis of the shaft. Each hydraulic device can include a piston and cylinder assembly wherein extension and retraction of each piston of each hydraulic device is generally tangential to a portion of a circle encircling the shaft.

  • Patent number: 8453522
Abstract: One aspect of the invention is a test assembly comprising a prime mover, an actuator assembly and a torque transfer coupling. The actuator assembly has an end configured to be attached to a shaft of a portion of a test specimen such as a wind turbine assembly. The actuator assembly has a shaft supported for rotation by hydraulic bearings. The torque transfer coupling connects the primer mover to the actuator assembly.

  • Patent number: 6058784
Abstract: A material testing apparatus for applying selected force and moment loads to a test specimen includes a base assembly coupleable to the test specimen. The base assembly includes a support member and a first load generating mechanism adapted to apply a first load to the test specimen. A reaction structure reacts the first load applied to the test specimen. The reaction structure includes a reaction support joined to the support member. A moveable head is coupleable to the test specimen and is moveable relative to the reaction support. A second load generating mechanism is coupled to the moveable head and the reaction support. The second load generating mechanism is adapted to apply selected loads to the test specimen in at least two degrees of freedom.

  • Patent number: 5131983
Abstract: A press apparatus and method for pressing water from a paper web is disclosed. The apparatus includes a frame and a first press roll which is rotatably supported by the frame. A second press roll cooperates with the first roll for defining therebetween a pressing nip such that in use of the apparatus, the web extends through the nip for pressing the water therefrom. An elastomeric cover covers at least one of the rolls such that the pressing nip is extended in a machine direction so that the residence time of the web during passage of the web through the nip is increased.

  • Patent number: 4662398
Abstract: A control valve (22) is disclosed for controlled both the flow of steam (S) from a steam header (18) and air (A) into a steam box (12) of a web drying machine. The control valve (22) includes a valve body (26) defining a longitudinal passageway (28). The passageway (28) has a first and a second end (30,32) with the first end (30) of the passageway (28) being connected to, and in fluid communication with, the steam header (18). The second end (32) is connected to and in fluid communication with an air header (19). A first and a second valve seat (34,36) are disposed adjacent to the first and the second ends (30,32) of the passageway (28) for controlling respectively the flow of steam (S) and air (A) into the steam box (12). An elongate valve stem (38) having a first and a second valve closure (44,46) is movable axially within and along the passageway (28), the first and second closures (44,46) being disposed adjacent to a first and second end (40,42) of the valve stem (38).
