Abstract: A container and dispenser device for mascara and like products, consists of a shouldered bottle and a screw cap applicator which is screwed onto the bottle. In the bottle neck there is situated a shroud or separator member which has unique doctor means in the form of hinged webs which surround the actuator rod and control the amount of product which adheres to the applicator brush when the latter is withdrawn for use. Cooperable with the hinged webs is a circular bead on the applicator rod, which is engageable with the webs and normally constitutes a seal to prevent product from invading the shroud. Various types and shapes of doctoring webs are used, in various combinations to produce "clean" and also "product carrying" portions on the brush, thereby to enable a combing action to be had by the user, and the applicator rod can extend for an appreciable distance below the shroud and into the product contained in the bottle.

Abstract: A container and sealing closure therefor, includes a container body part having an access opening and includes a continuous peripheral wall surrounding the access opening, and a closure part. The wall of the body part has a peripherally extending continuous sealing edge portion at its upper outer surface, the edge portion being coextensive with the wall. The closure part has a resilient skirt portion. The sealing edge portion of the wall of the container part has a sharp apex forming an included angle of substantially 90 degrees. The skirt portion of the closure part is adapted to mate in spaced relation, with the peripheral wall of the container part and has an inner surface which extends obliquely with respect to the peripheral wall of the body part and which is adapted to engage the apex.

Abstract: A display-type container for cosmetics and the like, includes a flat jar having a neck portion with an external screw thread, and a ring-shaped screw cap member that is mounted on and cooperable with the neck portion. The latter has an annular sealing lip, and a plastic panel member which is disposed in the ring-shaped screw cap member provides underside sealing areas or surfaces that are engaged with the sealing lip. Portions of the screw-cap member and panel member are disposed in overlying relation, the two members being centralized with one another, and forming a unitary closure assemblage. The arrangement is such that the sealing areas of the panel member are forced by the screw cap member, into substantially air-tight sealing engagement with the sealing lip of the jar. The seal does not depend on the engagement of the threads, or upon any incidental sealing therebetween, which may or may not occur.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing disposable, single-use lipstick samplers by means of a dipping process. In a preferred form, a reservoir containing molten lipstick wax material is provided, and a spindle which is disposed above the reservoir is advanceable toward and retractable away from the reservoir. A plastic cup-shaped form having an apertured tip is applied to the spindle, which is thereafter advanced so as to submerge the tip of the form into the molten liquid wax material. The spindle and coated form are then removed from the reservoir, and gas pressure applied through the spindle to the aperture of the tip of the form, so as to blow off excess lipstick wax material therefrom. The form is allowed to cool so as to solidify the wax, and thereafter is fitted with a cover, removed, and suitably packaged.

Abstract: A sampler device for mascara and like cosmetic substances, consists of an elongate tubular container having one end closed and constituting a reservoir or well for holding the cosmetic product. The container has an elongate barrel portion which constitutes a sheath that encloses an intermediate portion of an elongate applicator rod or stick which latter is receivable in the container and held therein with either a snap fit or by means of screw threads. The working end of the applicator rod has a dabber or brush which is lodged in the reservoir of the container; an adjoining portion of the rod seals with the mouth of the container reservoir when the rod is in place. The intermediate portion of the applicator rod joins to an accessible, elongate handle which protrudes from the container and which has, in addition to the snap fit or screw detent device, a sealing means in the form of a resilient ring or gasket that is operative to effect additional sealing when the applicator rod is retained in the container.

Abstract: A combined cosmetic jar and applicator storage device consisting of a structural body which provides a pair of back-to-back shallow recesses for holding a cosmetic material and an applicator, respectively. Two removable covers are carried by the body, one to close each of the recesses. The cover for one recess has a portion which telescopes into and is retained by a cooperable portion of the body, and has another portion consisting of a hinged flap which can be swung between open and closed positions to provide quick access to the applicator. Enhanced ease of use, coupled with improved function and an aesthetically pleasing physical appearance, are thus realizeable.

Abstract: A combined cosmetic jar and applicator storage device including a structural body providing a pair of back-to-back shallow recesses for holding cosmetic materials, a removable cover member carried by the body, enclosing one of the recesses to retain cosmetic material therein, and a second cover member carried by the body, enclosing the other of the recesses so as to store a cosmetic applicator therein. The second cover member and body have telescoping portions by which the second cover member is held captive on the body but can shift with respect thereto. Shifting of the second member controls a passage thereof, to permit selective access to the cosmetic applicator stored in the other of the recesses.

Abstract: A container constituted of injection-molded plastic components, the components having the property of enabling discrete particles thereof to be securely joined to each other under the action of heat and pressure. The injection-molded components form a pair of continuous mating edges adapted to constitute a common continuous joint in the container. The edges initially have configurations enabling them to be mutually abutted, and the edges after being so abutted having been subjected to heat and pressure of a magnitude sufficient to cause them to meet and merge into each other to form the continuous joint.

Abstract: An actuator for a container that dispenses liquids containing a suspension of particulate material that keeps itself from clogging comprises a mechanical break-up chamber to emit a fine spray and includes a continuous emission from an orifice which keeps the chamber free from accumulation of solid particles.
