  • Publication number: 20020081964
Abstract: An air conditioning unit includes a control that operates in an automatic air filtration mode of operation when commanded to do so. The control, when in this mode of operation, automatically activates an air filtration system within the unit in response to the sensing of contaminants in the air surrounding the unit. The automatic activation of the air filtration system occurs in response to an unfavorable comparison of a sensed value of air quality with an allowable limit for air quality. The allowable limit for air quality may be computed as a function of time so as to reduce the air quality required during times in which the space being heated or cooled is unoccupied.

  • Patent number: 4632021
Abstract: An air sweep mechanism in the discharge opening of a room air conditioner is provided with an operator level to select a desired position of fixed orientation for the vanes. When the vanes subsequently arrive at the position so selected, the air sweep drive mechanism is automatically stopped to leave the vanes in that fixed orientation.

  • Patent number: 4621570
Abstract: Apparatus and assembly for a louver structure to be mounted in an air discharge opening of a room air conditioner. The individual louvers are installed by sliding their end mounting pins into slots formed in their associated side support members. Retainer bars are then placed over the mounting pins and secured into position to maintain the louvers in place. The retainer bars may include slots that engage pivot pins on the respective louvers such that the retainer bars then act as gang bars to coordinate the pivotal movement of the louvers.

  • Patent number: 4607499
Abstract: An air conditioner housing is formed of upper and lower polymeric shells having flanges on the outer side of their abutting rims. Together, the upper and lower flanges form a dovetail for slideably receiving an aluminum channel member thereover to secure the two elements together and provide for load sharing therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4492091
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the operation of an add-on heat pump water heater unit is disclosed. A combination of a thermally conductive tube having a flattened portion and a thermostat mounted thereto is utilized to sense the temperature level of water in a tank to which the heater unit is connected. The tube and thermostat are additionally insulated from the ambient. A circulating pump is provided and connected to the water thermostat such that the pump is energized only when it is necessary to operate the heat energy adding unit.
