Publication number: 20150334778Abstract: An electrical insulating and heating element support assembly for a high temperature vacuum furnace having a threaded support rod for connecting a heating element to the insulated hot-zone support ring in an electrically non-connected position includes insulator sleeves and washers surrounding the rod in contact with a series of refractory metal washers which may include graphite and/or molybdenum as shielding liners used to protect electrical insulators from having electrical short path means due to deposition of conductive materials onto the non-conducting insulators, and the use of threaded nuts and bushings to anchor the rod and shielding arrangement within the furnace hot zone. The non-conducting insulators and washers are made from materials with high thermal and electrical resistance, such as preferably alumina or mullite, and radially surround the support rod and the heating element.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 16, 2014Publication date: November 19, 2015Inventors: Robert J. Wilson, Mark J. Hughes

Patent number: 9187799Abstract: A vacuum furnace for heat treating and rapid gas quenching insitu a work piece at pressures up to 20 Bar and high gas velocities. The furnace comprises a single chamber having an inner portion including a plurality of graphite heating elements and graphite insulation, an outer portion and an access door. Further included are movable radiation baffle doors. In their closed position hot gases heat treat the work piece. In their open position the hot gases escape through the opening created onto chevron-shaped baffles in the outer portion which reflect radiation heat energy back into the inner portion and diffuse only convective heat energy into a heat exchanger and a variable speed drive recirculating fan. The recirculating fan directs the cooling gases through cooling nozzles onto the work piece to quench it to a pre-programmed temperature.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 2012Date of Patent: November 17, 2015Inventors: Robert J. Wilson, Robert F. Daley

Publication number: 20140295939Abstract: A machine is operable in a basic mode and a bonus mode. The bonus game is entered upon the occurrence of a start-bonus game outcome in the basic mode. In the bonus game, a player may select from an array of windows, each associated with a bonus game outcome. Credits are awarded based upon which ones of the windows are selected. The bonus game may end upon selection of a window associated with an end-bonus outcome but otherwise continues, allowing the player to make further selections until encountering an end-bonus outcome. A bonus game resource obtained in the basic game may be exercised in the bonus game to affect the bonus game outcome. For example, where the occurrence of an end-bonus outcome would otherwise end the bonus game, a player having a bonus game resource may exercise the bonus game resource to continue playing the bonus game.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 14, 2014Publication date: October 2, 2014Applicant: WMS Gaming Inc.Inventors: Alfred Thomas, Benjamin T. Gomez, Robert J. Wilson, JR., Roger A. Delott

Patent number: 8481336Abstract: A magnetic sifter is adapted for manipulation of biological cells by providing a greater pore density at the edge of the sifter than at the center. Application of an external magnetic field to the sifter causes high magnetic fields and field gradients at the sifter pores. These conditions are suitable for capturing magnetically tagged or labeled cells at the sifter pores. Altering the external magnetic field can provide controlled capture and/or release of magnetically labeled cells from the sifter pores. The purpose of having a greater pore density at the periphery of the sifter than at the center is to provide improved flow rate uniformity through the sifter. Such flow rate uniformity is advantageous for cell quantification.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2010Date of Patent: July 9, 2013Assignee: The Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior UniversityInventors: Christopher M. Earhart, Shan X. Wang, Robert J. Wilson

Patent number: 8480480Abstract: A bonus game for a slot machine operable in a basic mode and a bonus mode. The bonus game is entered upon the occurrence of a special start-bonus game outcome in the basic mode. In the bonus game, a player selects, one at a time, from an array of windows each associated with a bonus game outcome. Credits are awarded based upon which ones of the windows are selected. The bonus game ends upon selection of a window associated with an end-bonus outcome but otherwise continues, allowing the player to make further selections and accumulate further credits until encountering an end-bonus outcome.
