  • Patent number: 5752580
Abstract: A portable ladder module is provided, comprising a primary support member having a first step; a secondary support member having a second step, wherein the secondary support member is slidable relative to the primary support member. A lock is operatively disposed between the primary support member and the secondary support member for selectively locking the position of the secondary support member relative to the primary support member in an extended position and a retracted position. A strap having a quick-release buckle is secured to the primary support member for holding the ladder module to a tree, and a pair of rigid tubing members on each of the primary support member and the secondary support member are present for stabilizing the ladder module against the tree. Preferably, a third step is provided on either the primary or the secondary support member, depending upon the nature of the sliding relationship between the primary and secondary support members.

  • Patent number: 5722978
Abstract: An osteotomy guide and surgical kit for performing a tibial osteotomy are provided, wherein the osteotomy guide comprises two or more rows of guide holes formed therethrough for attaching the guide onto a pair of guide pins in a predetermined relation to a tibia; a transverse slot, defining a transverse cutting plane; and a plurality of oblique slots angularly offset from the transverse slot, each oblique slot defining an oblique cutting plane. Additional features of the surgical kit include a transverse member adapted to pass through the transverse slot, which can be either a modified saw blade or a separate removable plate, and a locking device on the osteotomy guide for lockably engaging the transverse member and positioning the osteotomy guide at a predetermined location relative to the transverse member. A measurement guide hole is also provided in the same plane as the transverse slot so that accurate measurement of the tibial depth can be accomplished.

  • Patent number: 5062540
Abstract: A container recycling apparatus including a cylindrical container formed with an "L" shaped circumferential flange at an upper terminal end thereof receives a single or plurality of cylindrical segments therewithin. Each cylindrical segment defined by a predetermined axial height equal to that of the cylindrical container to permit individuals to modify various compartments within the container. Each insert includes a sleeve positioned at a varying axial position about an axis of each insert for mounting about a central shaft coaxially mounted within a rigid manner within the cylindrical container. Each insert includes a lock flange receiving the "L" shaped flange of the container for enhanced securement of each insert within the container.

  • Patent number: 4133366
Abstract: A mounting arrangement for stretching mounting panels of flexible sheet material, disclosed as solar screening mesh, within openings such as window frames, including tensioner channel members secured to opposite edges of the screen panel, each tensioner channel being disclosed as an extrusion of identical cross-sectional shape and each including a recess within which is retained a retainer bar with the screen panel material passing around the retainer bar within the recess frictionally secured within the recess. A lip edge opposite the recess is formed on each tensioner channel, one of the tensioner channels lip edge hooked by rigid clip members fastened to the opening frame, while the other tensioner channel is resiliently supported to an opposing frame member by C-shaped spring clips secured to the window frame member.

  • Patent number: 4062368
Abstract: According to the invention, a material for the filtration of tobacco smoke by reduction of vapor-phase constituents without adverse effect on the taste of the smoke comprises carbon particles of a size substantially within the range of 300 to 1700 micron, coated over their surfaces, individually and without being bonded together, with a barrier layer which has a thickness within the range of 5 .times. 10.sup.-4 to 0.5 micron and which is discontinuous in that it has a porosity within the range of 7,000 to 200,000 cm.sup.3 /min/10 cm.sup.2 per 10 cm water gauge and a permeability for organic vapors contained in tobacco smoke such that it permits the passage of molecules within the size range 5 .times. 10.sup.-4 to 2 micron, the said layer being composed substantially of an organic non-nitrogen-containing polymeric material which is non-volatile, substantially non-water-soluble and non-toxic. The invention is further concerned with tobacco smoke filters comprising such coated carbon particles.

  • Patent number: 3994433
Abstract: A corner pad for use in packaging fragile articles, formed from a single, flat piece of thick yieldable, shock-absorbing synthetic cushioning material which can be shipped and stored in flat form and which has an integral tab-and-slot locking arrangement to provide means for holding the corner pad in a three-sided configuration without using any adhesives, tapes, clips or other fasteners.

  • Patent number: 3946874
Abstract: A one-piece, relatively thick, resilient corner pad which is used in the packaging of fragile articles. The pad is formed from three identical pieces of resilient material, and assembled so as to form a polyagonal, generally triangular, enrapment in the shape of a truncated, hollow triangular pyramid for the corner of a box or similar container, whereby, when the pad is placed over and around the meeting point of three sides of the container, the container will be spaced and resiliently held within a larger shipping container, without damage from high impact shocks. The unique design cuts costs since only four of such corner pads or cushions are needed -- one each diagonally opposite another. The pads provide excellent dynamic cushioning under heavy static loads. The configuration of each of the three pieces is identical and so designed so that a minimum of raw material is utilized, with no significant waste when the pieces are cut from a sheet.
