Patent number: 10773288Abstract: A combined iris and shear unit for a coil forming device is provided that includes an actuator and a plurality of support members coupled together in series to support formation of a coil and connected to the actuator. Each support member further comprises a retractable shear blade. The actuator adapted to cause movement of the support members between an open position with the blades of the combined iris and shear unit being retracted away from the reform tub wall, so that coil forming takes place within the reform tub without interference. A support position with the blades extends into the reform tub and providing support for the coil; or a shear position for cutting the coil before it is extracted.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2018Date of Patent: September 15, 2020Assignee: Primetals Technologies USA LLCInventor: Robert John Castle

Publication number: 20100321126Abstract: A receiver for recovering timing and data information from a signal, comprising an envelope detector for demodulating the signal; to produce a demodulated signal; a filter for filtering the demodulated signal to remove or attenuate amplitude variations due to the timing information so as to produce a data signal; and a timing recovery circuit for forming a difference between time aligned versions of the demodulated signal and the data signal so as to recover the timing information.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 22, 2008Publication date: December 23, 2010Inventor: Robert John Castle

Patent number: 7580493Abstract: One embodiment of a method of generating a clock signal and synchronizing the generated clock signal with a digital data stream comprises generating a clock signal using an oscillator, identifying a transition in a portion of the data stream, and synchronizing a transition of the clock signal with the identified transition in the data stream by changing a state of the oscillator using control circuitry in response to the identification of the transition in the data stream, wherein the clock signal is synchronized with the data stream for both situations where the oscillator operates at a frequency greater than the data rate and where the oscillator operates a frequency less than the data rate. Other methods and systems are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 2005Date of Patent: August 25, 2009Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventor: Robert John Castle

Patent number: 7079008Abstract: Embodiments enable controlling a proximity transaction between first and second communications devices, each of which is provided with a short-range transceiver. In an exemplary embodiment, the first communications device has an RF/ID reader, and the second communications device has an RF/ID tag, the RF/ID tag containing the same identifier information as the second communications device. The second communications device is positioned within the range of the reader of the first communications device. Then, the transceiver of the second communications device transmits a transaction request and the identifies information of that device to the first communications device. The reader of the first communications device then interrogates the tag of the second communications device and the transaction is completed upon the reader of the first communications device receiving identifier information from the tag of the second communications device that is identical to the identifier information already received.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 2002Date of Patent: July 18, 2006Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Robert John Castle, John Deryk Waters

Patent number: 6947480Abstract: A network adapter capable of receiving data from a network, said adapter arranged to receive data at at least a lowest and a highest rate; said adapter comprising: sampling means arranged to sample said data; an equalizer arranged to receive, and equalize, said data samples, and said equalizer capable of being trained to equalize data, at at least, each of said lowest and highest data rates; and training means capable of training said equalizer to equalize data; wherein; said adapter is initially arranged to train said equalizer to receive data at said lowest data rate allowing data to be decoded and if upon decoding said adapter determines that said equalizer has been trained to equalise data at the incorrect rate to retrain said equalize to equalize data at the correct rate.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2001Date of Patent: September 20, 2005Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Martin Warwick Beale, Timothy Alan Heath Wilkinson, Ian Robert Johnson, Robert John Castle
