  • Patent number: 9467038
Abstract: A power converter circuit includes a storage component, a rectifier component comprising a first field effect transistor and having first and second bias states, and a switch including a second field effect transistor having first and second operational states. The first and second field effect transistors are High Electron Mobility Transistors (HEMTs).

Date of Patent: October 11, 2016
    Assignee: Cree, Inc.
    Inventor: Robert Joseph Callanan
  • Publication number: 20150311724
Abstract: An inductive power transfer system for device such as a battery charger on an electric vehicle includes a primary circuit having a rectifier and an H bridge inverter connected in parallel to deliver rectified AC voltage to a stationary primary coil of a transformer. The system further includes a secondary circuit on the vehicle including a secondary coil and another rectifier connected in series. AC voltage from a power supply is converted to rectified AC voltage and then transformed into a pulse width modulated high frequency square wave voltage for electromagnetic transfer from the primary coil to the secondary coil. The square wave voltage is converted back to AC voltage for delivery to a vehicle charger.

  • Publication number: 20150311723
Abstract: An inductive power transfer system for a device such as battery charger on an electric vehicle includes a primary circuit having a rectifier and an H bridge inverter connected in parallel with a reactor connected in series to deliver direct current voltage to a stationary primary coil of a transformer. The system further includes a secondary circuit on the vehicle including a secondary coil and another rectifier connected in series. AC voltage from a power supply is converted to DC voltage and then transformed into a pulse width modulated high frequency square wave voltage for electromagnetic transfer from the primary coil to the secondary coil. The square wave voltage is converted back to DC voltage for delivery to a vehicle charger.

  • Patent number: 8218345
Abstract: A rectifier circuit can include an input circuit and first and second silicon carbide (SiC) bipolar junction transistors (BJTs). The input circuit is configured to respond to an alternating current (AC) input signal by generating a first pair of opposite polarity AC signals and a second pair of opposite polarity AC signals. The first pair of AC signals has a greater voltage range than the second pair of AC signals. The first and second SiC BJTs each include an input terminal connected to receive a different one of the second pair of opposite polarity AC signals, a base terminal connected to receive a different one of the first pair of opposite polarity AC signals, and an output terminal connected to a rectified signal output node of the rectifier circuit.

  • Patent number: 5933342
Abstract: A rectification circuit comprises a diode full-wave bridge rectifier, a freewheeling current path and a blocking diode coupled between the rectifier and the freewheeling current path to cause freewheeling current of the bridge rectifier to at least partially flow through the freewheeling current path instead of through the diodes of the bridge rectifier. A result is reduced "reverse recovery" power dissipation in the rectifier diodes.
