  • Patent number: 6639809
Abstract: An apparatus and method for mounting an electronic component device directly to a plug in board within an electronic product thereby eliminating differential movement between the mounting surface of a mounting bracket holding an electrical component device, and the plug in board to which the component device is attached during transportation or use. By eliminating differential/relative movement between the anchoring surface of the mounting bracket and the plug in board commonly found in conventional applications, the stresses generated by differential movement of the connection leads of the mounted component device, relative to the plug in board, and the concomitant potential for degradation of component device performance resulting therefrom, are eliminated.

  • Patent number: 6230391
Abstract: A kit and method for minimizing the chance of a short circuit during servicing of a signal tap. The kit includes a pair of insertion tools. Each insertion tool includes a shaft dimensioned to be received within a plug port of the tap and a slot extending along its length. The kit further includes a pair of external insulator strips, each having an insertion portion configured to be positionable within the shaft slot. To prepare the tap for servicing, each insertion tool is positioned in a respective plug port. An external insulator strip is positioned in and moved along the respective slot to a position that isolates the contact terminals and reduces the risk of a short circuit. In taps including an internal bypass switch, the kit may further include a pair of internal insulator strips which are positioned between the bypass switch ends and the tap housing.

  • Patent number: 6024604
Abstract: A tool and method for bypassing a signal. The bypass tap tool generally comprises a housing, a pair of conductively interconnected contact assemblies and an insulation assembly. The contact assemblies are positioned in and extending from the housing. The insulator assembly is mounted on the housing and includes two insulator extensions. Each extension is adjacent to a respective contact assembly and is moveable between a non-insulating position and an extended insulating position. To prepare the signal tap for service, the bypass tap tool is interconnected with the signal tap with the contact assemblies entering the plug ports and conductively contacting the contact terminals to provide a bypass route and the extensions are moved from the non-insulating position to the extended insulating position wherein they are adjacent to and insulate the contact terminals.
