  • Publication number: 20210088166
Abstract: A method is disclosed for making a duct assembly including an internal component part such as a silencer is disclosed. The duct assembly may be made in a blow-molding operation in which first and second duct parts are formed from a single parison as a combined part that is then split apart to receive a component part in a housing and subsequently closed by a closure part. Alternatively, the first and second housing parts may be separately formed and a component part may be inserted into a housing defined by one or both of the first and second duct parts. The first and second duct parts may be joined and sealed by injection molding a ring over telescopically assembled ends of the first and second parts.

  • Patent number: 10724483
Abstract: An integrated hydrocarbon trap and air filter in the soundtube of a vehicle for use in conjunction with the engine's air intake system is disclosed. The trap and air filter comprises a housing body having first and second ends. The housing includes hydrocarbon-adsorbing media and air filter media. The hydrocarbon-adsorbing and air filter trap are incorporated into a soundtube. A first soundtube portion connects the housing to the engine's air intake system while a second soundtube is open to ambient and connects the housing to a vehicle body structure such as a fender. Selection of the body diameter, thickness, and length, the dimensions and type of both air filter media and hydrocarbon-adsorbing media and position of the air filter media, NVH media, and space relative to the trap media and location of the integrated hydrocarbon trap and air filter along the soundtube provide superior tunability and adaptability.

  • Patent number: 9993968
Abstract: Vapors in the fuel tank of a vehicle are collected in a carbon canister. An ejector or aspirator is used to purge the carbon canister in a pressure-charged engine in which a positive pressure exists in the intake. A compact ejector includes a substantially planar flange and a venturi tube coupled to the flange with a central axis of the venturi tube substantially parallel to the flange. By manufacturing the ejector in two pieces, dimensions within the ejector: throat, converging section, and diverging section, is more accurate than prior art manufacturing techniques thereby providing better flow characteristics throughout the boost range.

  • Publication number: 20170356329
Abstract: As engines are developing more specific power than earlier versions, the engines move more severely in the engine compartment during torque changes than prior engines. A more robust system to retain engine ducts and tubes is desired, particularly for situations where one end of the duct is mounted to a sub-component in the engine compartment and another end to the engine. A bracketing system for a powerplant for a vehicle has an engine mounted to a vehicle frame via engine mounts, an air cleaner mounted to the vehicle frame, a duct fluidly coupling the air cleaner with the engine, a first bracket coupled to and wrapped around a portion of an engine component, and a second bracket coupled to the first bracket. The first bracket has an orifice for the tie straps to secure the engine coolant tubes and the second bracket is curved to accept the duct.

  • Patent number: 6756763
Abstract: A method for controlling an induction motor using an equivalent circuit model, the equivalent circuit having a real component and an imaginary component, is disclosed. The method instead of measuring a plurality of induction motor parameters, the real and the imaginary component of the induction motor impedance are calculated based on the measured phase currents and voltages. The invention calculates a first control function based on the real component of the induction motor impedance, and a second control function based on the imaginary component of the induction motor impedance, and adjusts the induction motor excitation frequency until the first control function is approximately equal to the second control function. After the excitation frequency is determined, the motor torque is calculated by taking the square of motor voltage in the d-q reference frame.

  • Publication number: 20030197991
Abstract: The present invention provides in one embodiment a method of transferring power throughout a vehicle system. Voltage measurements from a capacitor bank are received. These measurements are compared with a threshold voltage. A determination is made if the measurements are less than the threshold voltage. Instructions are transmitted to a battery to supply power to a plurality of coils of an integrated starter generator (ISG) motor. The plurality of coils are analyzed to determine if the plurality of coils are energized. Power is transmitted from the plurality of coils to the capacitor bank, if the plurality of coils are energized.

  • Patent number: RE38671
Abstract: A system (40) for starting an internal combustion engine (12) of an automotive vehicle (10) has a controller (54) coupled to a starter/alternator (42). The engine (12) has a crankshaft (50) and a turbocharger (24). The controller (54) initiates the starting of the engine (12) by rotating the crankshaft (50). The rotating crankshaft (50) displaces an amount of air from the cylinders (14) of the engine (12) to rotate the rotor shaft of the turbocharger (21). The turbocharger (25) thus draws in air, compresses the air and provides the compressed air to the cylinders (14). When the engine is started the initial power is increased due to the compressed air.
