Publication number: 20240094889Abstract: Computerized systems and methods are provided for automatically generating an application overflow tool that is dynamically updated and arranged to provide improved access to popular or recently used applications. These systems and methods improve existing technologies by generating an overflow panel different from a task bar, such that the overflow panel provides access to most recently used applications that are not on the task bar. As such, ease of access to applications is improved to increase user efficiency. These systems also improve the way computers operate by leveraging existing GUI layouts to reduce computing resource consumption, such as memory, network latency, I/O, and the like, that would otherwise be required improve access to applications.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 29, 2023Publication date: March 21, 2024Inventors: Charles Edward TAYLOR, Jr., Peter E. Publication number: 20200279415Abstract: A system includes a computing device that includes a memory configured to store instructions. The system also includes a processor to execute the instructions to perform operations that include receiving a collection of line segments representing a glyph space. For each line segment in the collection, operations include determining if each side of the line segment is located within an interior or an exterior of the glyph shape. Operations include determining one or more intersections of the line segments in the collection and an array of points of a grid. Each intersection represents a location that the respective line segment crosses a vertical or horizontal centerline of a point included in the points of the array. For each point included in the points of the array and along the centerline of the respective point, operations include determining a distance between the respective point and one of the one or more intersections.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 28, 2019Publication date: September 3, 2020Inventors: William Elliott Betts, Robert Joseph Taylor

Patent number: 10002448Abstract: A system includes a first computing device that includes a memory configured to store instructions. The first computing device also includes a processor to execute the instructions to perform a method that includes receiving data representing a collection of line segments that represent a glyph. The method also includes, for each line segment, defining a cell that substantially encapsulates the line segment. At least one side of the cell is defined by bisecting an angle defined by the line segment and an adjacent line segment. The method also includes determining a value for a portion of the defined cell based upon the distance between the portion of the cell and the corresponding line segment.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 2012Date of Patent: June 19, 2018Assignee: Monotype Imaging Inc.Inventors: Robert Joseph Taylor, Qun Wu

Publication number: 20150062140Abstract: A system includes a computing device that includes a memory configured to store instructions. The computing device also includes a processor to execute the instructions to perform operations that include receiving data representing a portion of a graphical object, and receiving data representative of one or more environmental conditions. For the portion of the graphical object, operations include defining a field of scalar values for presenting the graphical object on a display. Each scalar value is based on a distance between the portion of the graphical object and a corresponding point. Operations also include calculating one or more visual property values based on the scalar values and the one or more environmental conditions, and presenting the graphical object using the calculated visual property values of the field.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 29, 2013Publication date: March 5, 2015Inventors: Vladimir Levantovsky, Steven Robert Martin, Robert Joseph Taylor

Publication number: 20140354643Abstract: A system includes a computing device for producing a representation of a graphical element on a two dimensional set of image points. A metric value is calculated for each image point in the two dimensional set of image points. The computer device is configured to assign a visual property to image point in the two dimensional set of image points based upon the corresponding metric value. The computing device is also configured to present the assigned visual properties of the two dimensional set of image points as being offset from another two dimensional set of image points to provide a three dimensional appearance of the graphical element.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 18, 2014Publication date: December 4, 2014Inventor: Robert Joseph Taylor

Patent number: 6021716Abstract: A penetrator having a plurality of stacked penetrator segments is disclosed. Each penetrator segment has a nose portion and a rear portion. The rear portion of each penetrator segment has a rearwardly opening cavity therein and a plurality of fins pivotally mounted thereon. The penetrator segments are stacked such that the cavity of the forwardmost penetrator segment secureably contains the nose portion of the following penetrator segment such that there is a press-fit between the cavity and the nose portion. The following penetrator segments are similarly positioned such that the nose portion of each following penetrator segment is secureably positioned in the cavity of the immediately preceding penetrator segment. The fins of each penetrator segment are restrained in a stowed position when the cavity of the respective penetrator segment contains the nose portion of a following penetrator segment. An explosive element is located between each of the penetrator segments.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1997Date of Patent: February 8, 2000Assignee: Lockheed Martin CorporationInventor: Robert Joseph Taylor

Patent number: 5721461Abstract: An alternator includes a flywheel for storing kinetic energy. A motor generator, which includes permanent magnets mounted to a rotor, receives electrical power for accelerating the rotor to a high rotational velocity to store kinetic energy. The rotor is provided with coils, and each coil is connected to first and second conductors. The exterior portion of the rotor comprises the flywheel. Stator coils are mounted adjacent to coils of the rotor and electrical power is produced within the stator coils. The kinetic energy stored in the rotor flywheel can be transformed to electrical power through a first output which is the coils of the motor generator and can produce a second electrical output through the stator coils of the alternator. The primary application of such a dual power alternator is to produce a high power pulse for an electromagnetic gun, and to also provide averaging power to supplement the power from the main drive engine of a vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1997Date of Patent: February 24, 1998Assignee: Lockheed Martin Vought SystemsInventor: Robert Joseph Taylor
