  • Patent number: 8793499
Abstract: A system and method are provided for implementing a digital signature scheme for embedding and validating multiple nested digital signatures in digitally produced documents without modifying a file size of the digitally produced and signed documents or otherwise corrupting previously-embedded digital signatures. A number of fixed fields are included in a digitally produced document, upfront, that will be populated with multiple digital signatures. With the fixed fields in the digitally produced documents, the entire file is cryptographically “hashed” and the individual digital signatures are independently verifiable via simple cryptographic schemes. Multiple digital signatures are embedded in documents including complex file formats in a manner that does not corrupt the documents. Known cryptographic techniques such as, for example, a known hash algorithm, are applied to the digitally produced documents including the multiple sequentially input digital signatures in a process that is independently verifiable.

  • Publication number: 20140203944
Abstract: Methods and devices are provided for monitoring a battery to determine whether sufficient battery power remains to perform an event at a pre-scheduled time. A communications device includes a processor that receives instructions to perform the event at the pre-scheduled time, determines a first amount of time until the event is performed, detects an idle mode of the communications device, the idle mode consuming a minimum amount of power, calculates a second amount of time until the battery is depleted, the second amount of time being calculated while the communications device operates in the idle mode, determines whether the second amount of time is less than the first amount of time, activates a first alert if the second amount of time is less than the first amount of time while remaining in the idle mode, and performs an action prior to the pre-scheduled time while remaining in the idle mode.

  • Publication number: 20140203294
Abstract: Semiconductor structures comprising a III-nitride (e.g., gallium nitride) material region and methods associated with such structures are provided. In some embodiments, the structures include an electrically conductive material (e.g., gold) separated from certain other region(s) of the structure (e.g., a silicon substrate) by a barrier material in order to limit, or prevent, undesirable reactions between the electrically conductive material and the other component(s) which can impair device performance. In certain embodiments, the electrically conductive material may be formed in a via. For example, the via can extend from a topside of the device to a backside so that the electrically conductive material connects a topside contact to a backside contact. The structures described herein may form the basis of a number of semiconductor devices including transistors (e.g., FET), Schottky diodes, light-emitting diodes and laser diodes, amongst others.

  • Patent number: 8783496
Abstract: An improved beverage container of the type having a lid, a pour panel defined in the lid by a pour score and a vent panel defined in the lid by a vent score. A tab pivotally is mounted to the lid, wherein lifting the tab about a pivot in a lifting direction fractures the pour score and opens the pour panel. A secondary tab is carried by the tab, and is released into contact with the vent panel by lifting the tab to fracture the pour score, wherein pressing the tab in a direction generally opposite the lifting direction causes the secondary tab to fracture the vent score and open the vent panel. At least one anti-rotation member is disposed between the tab and the lid to prevent the tab from rotating about the rivet.

Abstract: Methods of firing a cordierite green body to form a fired cordierite body. The green body comprises cordierite-forming raw materials and organic material, the body having a core portion and a skin portion. The green body is pre-heated to a pre-heat temperature that is less than a thermal decomposition temperature of the organic material. The green body is maintained at the pre-heat temperature for a period of time sufficient to minimize a temperature differential between the core portion and the skin portion. The green body is heated to a low firing temperature in a firing atmosphere sufficient to reduce a content of the organic material and to substantially remove chemically bound water from hydrous alumina. The green body is heated to a high firing temperature in a firing atmosphere sufficient to reduce the content of the organic material prior to a substantial removal of chemically bound water from clay.

  • Publication number: 20140137191
Abstract: A mobile communications device may include a plurality of first input devices capable of passively collecting input data, a second input device(s) capable of collecting response data based upon a challenge, and a processor capable of determining a level of assurance (LOA) that possession of the mobile communications device has not changed based upon a statistical behavioral model and the passively received input data, and comparing the LOA with a security threshold. When the LOA is above the security threshold, the processor may be capable of performing a given mobile device operation without requiring response data from the second input device(s). When the LOA falls below the security threshold, the processor may be capable of generating the challenge, performing the given mobile device operation responsive to valid response data, and adding recent input data to the statistical behavioral model responsive to receipt of the valid response data.
