  • Patent number: 6875802
Abstract: Disclosed are compositions and processes for preparing polymeric materials having polymerizable units derived from at least one C8 to C30 alkyl (meth)acrylate monomer, and at least one chain branching unit. The presence of the chain branching unit suprisingly results in the polymeric composition having non-gelled polymer chains. The polymeric compositions are useful as additives for improving the melt strength of thermoplastic resins.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 25, 2002
Date of Patent: April 5, 2005
    Assignee: Rohm and Haas Company
Inventors: Carlos Alfonso Cruz, Eugene Patrick Dougherty, Harry Richards Herman, III, Robert Julian Smith, Morris Christopher Wills, Robert Victor Slone

  • Publication number: 20010056150
Abstract: An improved process for preparing an aqueous dispersion of plastics additive polymer particles using emulsion polymerization of one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers in an aqueous medium in the presence of a free radical redox initiator system is described. The free radical redox initiator system uses an oxidizing agent, a reducing agent, and a combination of metal ion species. The plastics additive polymer particles are useful as processing aids and impact modifiers in PVC articles.
