  • Patent number: 10285789
Abstract: The addition of the Iodide ion by way of Potassium Iodide to a peroxide such as Hydrogen Peroxide in a basic medium yields Free Radical Oxygen and water; generating large amounts of heat and depleting the Hydrogen Peroxide in a matter of minutes. The Free Radical Oxygen generated in this reaction can be utilized to oxidize organic molecules that produce offending stains on select items, including teeth. Once the Free Radical Oxygen has oxidized the offending molecule the color is lost and the solubility changes allowing the colorless oxidized fragments of the offending molecule to be washed away in the solvent. The Iodide ion catalyzes the reaction allowing for precise control over the speed at which the stain is removed without the need for other expensive, cumbersome energy adding equipment such as lights, lasers, heat sources, etc.

  • Publication number: 20180014909
Abstract: A dental handpiece may comprise a head portion and a swivel portion. The head portion may include a turbine and a light guide positioned to direct light out of the head portion near the turbine. The swivel may comprise a light emitting diode (LED) positioned to direct light into the light guide and a removable battery for powering the LED.

  • Publication number: 20140266636
Abstract: Example embodiments of the present invention provide a medical or dental device that is controlled by a mobile device. For example, the medical or dental device can be configured to wirelessly be controlled by a PDA, smartphone, tablet, netbook, ultrabook, and/or other similar mobile computing device. The mobile computing device can have an application that is programmed to communicate with the medical or dental device hardware and memory to control the function of the medical or dental device during use.

  • Patent number: 7530808
Abstract: The present invention is a switch-closeable double barrel syringe and methods for bleaching teeth using it. The syringe comprises two separately contained barrels, each containing one component of a dental bleach, and a rotatable tip with orifices to match, when open, orifices in the barrels, and a mixing chamber. The tip rotates between open and closed positions in order to dispense bleaching compositions for use in dental hygene. Various formulations of bleaching compositions may be contained within the barrels, however the invention is ideally suited for those which require separate storage of active ingredients before use.

  • Publication number: 20080311057
Abstract: In toothpaste, the addition of the Iodide ion by way of iodide salts, such as sodium iodide and potassium iodide, to a peroxide such as hydrogen peroxide in a basic medium yields free radical oxygen and water; generating large amounts of heat and depleting the Hydrogen Peroxide in a matter of minutes. The free radical oxygen generated in this reaction can be utilized to oxidize organic molecules that produce offending stains on select items, including artificial teeth and other dental appliances. Once the free radical oxygen has oxidized the offending molecule the color is lost and the solubility changes allowing any loose fragments of the offending molecule to be washed away in the solvent. The iodide ion catalyzes the reaction allowing for precise control over the speed at which the stain is removed without the need for other expensive, cumbersome energy adding equipment such as lights, lasers, heat sources, etc.
