Abstract: A slackline-based balance board apparatus comprising a board having a first end and a second end; a slackline extending between the first end and the second end and supported above a ground surface by the board; an anchoring mechanism at the first end securing a first portion of the slackline to the board; a tensioning interface at the second end configured to receive a second portion of the slackline and permit manual tensioning of the slackline; and a tension maintenance mechanism positioned along a path of the slackline between the board and at least one portion of the slackline, wherein the tension maintenance mechanism is configured to permit movement of the slackline relative to the board in a first direction during tensioning and to resist movement of the slackline in a second, opposite direction after tensioning so as to maintain tension in the slackline during use.
