  • Patent number: 6005004
Abstract: The present invention describes site-specific biomolecular complexes comprising a therapeutic, prophylactic and diagnostic agent, called also biologically active molecule and an omega-3 fatty acid and derivatives thereof. The complexes are further covalently bonded with cationic carriers and permeabilizer peptides for delivery across the blood-brain barrier and with targeting moieties for uptake by target brain cells. Said complexes are particularly useful for delivery of a biologically active agent to the glial tissue of the brain as well as to the cortical, cholinergic and adrenergic neurons. The preferred therapeutic complexes or conjugates comprise an omega-3 fatty acid such as alpha-linolenic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid or docosahexaenoic acid and derivatives thereof.

  • Patent number: 5716614
Abstract: A method is disclosed for delivering biologically active agents to a mammalian brain by administering a complex of the biologically active agent with a polycationic carrier coupled to 2-20 eicosapentaenoic acid or docosahexaenoic acid moieties and additional eicosapentaenoic acid or docosahexaenoic acid moieties. The polycationic carrier is poly-lysine, poly-arginine or poly-ornithine of 5-50 amino acid residues. The addition of a targeting moiety selected from tetanus toxin C fragrant, .alpha.-bungarotoxin and nerve growth factor to the complex facilitates delivery of the biologically active agent to glial tissue, or to cortical, cholinergic and adrenergic neurons.

  • Patent number: 5551192
Abstract: A seal assembly for use between a door and a cabinet of a refrigerator includes primary and secondary seals that are preferably carried by the door and extend around the entire perimeter thereof. The secondary seal is specifically designed to minimize necessary closing forces and creates an air cell in a throat area between a cold storage compartment of the refrigerator and the primary seal in order to effectively reduce heat transfer therethrough.

  • Patent number: 5040857
Abstract: Uniform compression of a refrigerator door seal against the peripheral surface of the cabinet opening is realized by a pair of spaced hinge assemblies coupled for synchronized operation which, in automatic response to opening the door, shifts the hinge axis outwardly prior to permitting pivotal movement of the door about the hinge axis, and requires the door to be moved linearly inwardly while being maintained parallel to the plane of the cabinet opening during final closing of the door.

  • Patent number: 5037004
Abstract: Ice cubes manufactured by the automatic ice maker of a household refrigerator are collected in a storage bin and conveyed towards the front of the bin and metered through an outlet opening at a constant rate by a longitudinal conveyor rotatably mounted between the front and back walls of the bin, and defined by spaced front and back helical sections of different pitches which convey the cubes forwardly at different rates and a propeller positioned on the conveyor forwardly of the front helical section at the outlet opening for breaking up frozen ice clusters and metering the cubes through the opening and past an upwardly angled ramp carried by an ice dam housing.

  • Patent number: 4969655
Abstract: In a board for snow skiing comprising an elongated blow-molded plastic ski ody. The body includes a top and a bottom wall and reinforcements extending therebetween. First and second spaced apart bindings are mounted to the board for respectively receiving a front and a rear foot of a rider of the board. The bindings each comprise a pair of flexible plastic bands which are fixedly mounted at a first end part thereof to the board in a spaced and substantially parallel relationship. The bands also include at a second end part thereof a cooperating fastening device. Each binding also comprises a strap having each of two ends thereof attached to one of the bands for securing a back part of the foot of the rider to the binding.

  • Patent number: 4887835
Abstract: A telescopically collapsible hand-pulled golf cart comprises a first tubular elongated member which includes bag supports and a pair of parallelogram linkages pivotally mounted at their upper ends to the first member and including wheels at their lower ends. A second elongated member is telescopically slidable in the first member and can be locked thereto. A third elongated member located inside the first member is slidable within the second member. A "Y"-connector is fixedly mounted as the lower end of the third member and has arms which protrude through a slot longitudinally defined on the rear part of the first member. A pair of links join the parallelogram linkages to the arms of the "Y"-connector. The third member is slidable a limited distance within the second member to provide a lost-motion movement to the latter. This allows an adjustment of the second member relative to the first member with no effect on the positions of the wheels.
