  • Publication number: 20160278909
Abstract: Artificial salivary gland devices and assemblies are provided. The present disclosure provides artificial salivary pump/gland devices and assemblies, and related methods of use. One embodiment utilizes the interstitial/marrow fluid reservoir within the underlying mandibular or maxillary bone as a source for replacement saliva. The salivary pump/assembly, which is implantable in the mandibular or maxillary bone as a dental implant and driven by incidental tooth contact and masticatory forces, harvests interstitial/marrow fluid and treats it via semi-permeable membrane technology and soluble particles as a continuously available saliva replacement. Masticatory forces and tooth contact power the pump to both harvest interstitial/marrow fluid and drive flow through a bed of ion-exchange resins and/or soluble particles to adjust fluid chemistry providing a continuously available saliva-like solution.

  • Patent number: 9441368
Abstract: A construction system for releasing moisture from a building is provided. The system is especially suitable for use in buildings having a hip, valley or gable roof. More specifically, the device gives the hip, valley or gable roof adequate ventilation and moisture vapor release portals so as to allow air and water vapor to properly rise through the interior of the hip, valley or gable roof and out through ridge vents without becoming trapped by rafters of the hip, valley or gable roof. The system has a first unit and a second unit, wherein the first unit allows air and water vapor to pass through passageways of the first unit up through the underside of the hip, valley or gable roof up and out through the ridge vent(s) and the second unit allows air from the exterior to pass into the roof cavity to circulate through the roof cavity and into the first unit.

  • Publication number: 20160177664
Abstract: A rotary check valve is disclosed having sealing surfaces between two sealing members that engage with a rotating shearing motion. The rotating shearing motion may shear debris between the sealing members and minimize or eliminate blockage of fluid passageways in the sealing members. In a closed position, the upper sealing member and lower sealing member are rotated such that fluid passageways in the upper sealing member and fluid passageways in the lower sealing member are not aligned and blocked by the sealing surfaces. The sealing members of the rotary check valve may be biased to a closed position via a spring.

  • Publication number: 20160121638
Abstract: A user is presented with handle of a captive but freely moveable wand, the handle useable to move an attached viewfinder over a clear front window of a front component to selectively reveal parts of printed matter on a hidden back component as apparently part of semi-transparently printed matter on the clear front window. Inside, a concealed component tethered to the wand travels between the semi-transparently printed matter and the printed matter on the hidden back component. The tethered concealed component has an opening that lies directly below and matches an opening in the viewfinder in size so that, with movement, it can selectively show (a) both the printed matter on the clear front window superimposed over the selectively revealed parts of the printed matter on the back component in the viewfinder and (b) solely the semi-transparently printed matter on the clear front window outside the viewfinder.

  • Patent number: 9291347
Abstract: A method controls mass and heat loading of sludge feed into a fluidized bed combustor (FBC) controlled via regulation of a polymer dosage or a sludge feed rate including: continuously monitoring at least one performance characteristic of the FBC; producing an input signal characteristic; analyzing the input signal and determining a first rate of change of the characteristic; generating an output signal based on the first rate of change to control addition of polymer to the FBC; generating a second output signal to control addition of sludge feed to the FBC; and determining a transition point between the addition of polymer and addition of sludge, which transition point is an upper limit of a first rate change to maintain flow so that the value of the characteristic is maintained proximate at the upper limit.

  • Publication number: 20150286799
Abstract: A system for preparing and managing patient-specific dose orders includes an order processing server configured to receive the patient-specific dose orders, define a queue of dose orders and distribute the dose orders to at least one dose preparation station. The dose preparation station is in bi-directional communication with the order processing server and has an interface for providing an operator with a protocol associated with each received drug order and specifying a set of steps to fill the drug order. Steps to fill the drug order are captured at the station and a display, positionable independent of the station outputs the dose order queue and metrics concerning activity at the dose preparation station. Systems for preparing patient-specific doses and a method for telepharmacy in which data captured while following the protocol are provided to a remote site for review and approval by a pharmacist.

  • Patent number: 8986381
Abstract: A structural/biological implant and method of use. The implant being utilized as a single or multiple staged system that is designed to encourage new alveolar bone growth with or without the need to obtain autologous bone. The implant has an apical portion that is fastened into existing bone, with the remainder of the implant left outside of existing bone. The exposed portion of the implant may have an external shape or configuration with a variety of attached and/or integrally formed mechanical retention and stability elements. Osteotropic/angiotropic material may be associated with the implant to induce and or conduct new bone growth and possible vascularization, thus, rather than fitting the implant into the bone, the bone is grown integratively with the implant.
