The modular base comprises a plurality of base components adapted to be arranged relative to each other to define a backplane comprising a plurality of module mounting locations, wherein each mounting location comprises a first electrical base connector of one base component and a second electrical base connector of another base component. A plurality of removable modules are adapted to be respectively removably connected to the backplane in the mounting locations to provide a modular electrical device. Each of the modules comprises a first module connector adapted to be mated with a first base connector of a mounting location and a second module connector adapted to be mated with a second base connector of the mounting location The backplane comprises one or more coupling devices for releasably engaging a module.

Abstract: A rectangular field emission display has a front member with a glass anode support, and a first sidewall section; the display also has a cathode substrate containing an embedded cathode; the display has a rear member with a planar section and a sidewall section; and the display has an evacuated space. The front member and the rear member enclose at least a portion of the cathode substrate. The evacuated space separates the entire anode support section and the cathode substrate.

Abstract: A cathodoluminescent anode for a field emission display (FED) includes a substrate on which an array of phosphor elements is formed, with at least two such elements spaced by a gap adapted to receive a spacer when the anode is assembled to a cathode. In one embodiment, a conductive layer disposed over the phosphor elements has a portion disposed in the gap, in contact with and electrostatically and mechanically bonded to the substrate. In another embodiment, the conductive layer has an aperture in the gap to expose a portion of the substrate. Also described are techniques for fabricating the FED anodes.
