Publication number: 20110032115Abstract: The subject of the present invention is a method for remote starting an internal combustion engine of a vehicle comprising the steps of: detecting a wireless remote start signal; after detecting the wireless remote start signal, activating a parking aid system to detect the presence or absence of a garage door; and if no garage door is detected by the parking aid system, remote starting the internal combustion engine. A carbon monoxide detector or an automatic garage door opener may also be employed in the remote start process.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 4, 2009Publication date: February 10, 2011Inventors: Robert Kwiecinski, Brian Bennie, Thomas M. McQuade, Daniel J. Bartz

Patent number: 7804425Abstract: A vehicle parking assist system for assisting a driver of the vehicle in parking such vehicle in a garage located at a preselected global position. The system includes: a global positioning system mounted to the vehicle having stored therein the global position of the garage, for determining actual global position of the vehicle and providing a signal indicating when the vehicle is proximate the location of the garage; a range sensor for detecting a wall of the garage in front of a direction of motion of the vehicle into the garage; and a processor, responsive to the global positioning system provided by the global positioning system indicating when the vehicle is proximate the garage; the range sensor, for indicating when the vehicle has parked in the garage such that front of the vehicle is forward of the wall while enabling a door of the garage to be closed without striking the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 2008Date of Patent: September 28, 2010Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Robert Kwiecinski, Thomas Michael McQuade, Brian Gordon Bennie

Patent number: 6864783Abstract: A collision warning and countermeasure system (10) for an automotive vehicle (12) is provided. The system (10) includes a transmission gear sensor (20) that generates a transmission gear signal. A multi-mode object detection sensor (28) generates an object detection signal. The multi-mode object detection sensor (28) operates in a detection mode in response to the transmission gear signal. A controller (26) is electrically coupled to the transmission gear sensor (20) and the multi-mode object detection sensor (28) and generates a countermeasure signal in response to the object detection signal. A method of performing the same is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2002Date of Patent: March 8, 2005Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Manoharprasad K. Rao, Kwaku O. Prakah-Asante, Gary Steven Strumolo, Robert Kwiecinski

Patent number: 6864782Abstract: A backup aid system (14) for detecting the presence of a trailer (12) includes a trailer connector (52a) and a backup aid controller (50) that has an input (66) electrically coupled to the connector (52a). The backup aid controller (50) monitors a voltage level at input (66). When the voltage level is above a first predetermined voltage, the controller (50) generates a backup warning signal. When the voltage is below a second predetermined voltage, the controller (50) disables the backup warning signal. Also, the system may monitor the voltage in between the first predetermined voltage and the second predetermined voltage to determine the presence of a lamp fault such as outage or corroded contacts.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 2002Date of Patent: March 8, 2005Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Mark Christian Aaron, Peter Langer, Robert Kwiecinski
