Publication number: 20140091104Abstract: A syringe press includes a housing, a compressible member, and a compression mechanism. The housing includes a longitudinal axis, a first end and a second end. The housing is configured to support a syringe, which includes a cylinder configured to contain a fluid, and a piston having a seal configured to move within the cylinder, between the first and second ends. The compressible member is supported by the housing between the first end and the piston. The compression mechanism is supported by the housing and is configured to apply a compressive force to the piston, the cylinder and the compressible member, between the first and second ends and along the longitudinal axis. The piston is driven into the cylinder, and fluid is driven through an output of the cylinder responsive to the compressive force.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 27, 2013Publication date: April 3, 2014Applicant: Regents of the University of MinnesotaInventors: Robert L. Patent number: 7849003Abstract: Methods and systems for monitoring an online account opening service. One system can include an account management system that performs an online account opening service and includes a management console application. The online account opening service electronically receives account application information and funding information specifying at least one funding source, processes the account application to assess a risk to a financial institution of opening an account for a customer, processes the funding source information to assess a risk to the financial institution of transferring funds from the at least one funding source to the account, and electronically transfers funds from the at least one funding source to the account based on the risk to the financial institution of opening the account for the customer and the risk to the financial institution of transferring funds from the at least one funding source to the account.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2007Date of Patent: December 7, 2010Assignee: Efunds CorporationInventors: Rockne Egnatios, Amy B. Patent number: 5566826Abstract: A disposable one-piece necktie fastener comprising a fiat paper wafer bearing adhesive on both sides that serves to attach the two ends of a necktie to each other when placed therebetween. A necktie fastener may bear indicia such as an advertisement. The necktie fastener is preferably round, or substantially round with a handle portion protruding from the periphery, such handle portion not bearing adhesive. A streamer of necktie fasteners comprises a plurality of fasteners disposed between two ribbons of wax-coated paper. The ribbons include a perforated seam between adjacent necktie fasteners. A hollow container for holding and dispensing a streamer of necktie fasteners including an opening through which the streamer may pass from inside to outside the container.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 1995Date of Patent: October 22, 1996Inventor: Robert L. Patent number: 5103784Abstract: A cylinder head, more preferably a piston, of an internal combustion engine is provided on its compression face with a substantially central bowl and an annular common squish jet pocket encircling and spaced radially from the bowl to define an annular lip separating the squish pocket from the bowl. A plurality of discrete squish jet channels are formed through the lip and connect the squish pocket with the bowl at locations circumferentially spaced about the bowl. Each of the channels is open to the compression face along its full length from an inlet end connected to the annular squish jet pocket to a discharge end opening into the bowl. The channels provide the main paths for fluid flow from the area on the compression face surrounding the bowl into the bowl and in particular from the annular pocket into the bowl.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1991Date of Patent: April 14, 1992Assignee: The Univeristy of British ColumbiaInventor: Robert L. Patent number: 5065715Abstract: A cylinder head, more preferably a piston, of an internal combustion engine is provided on its compression face with a substantially central bowl and a plurality of discrete squish jet channels circumferentially spaced about the bowl. Each of the channels is open to the compression face along its full length from an inlet end to a discharge end opening into the bowl. The channels provide the main paths for fluid flow from the areas on compression face surrounding the bowl into the bowl. The piston and cylinder are so shaped that as the piston approaches top dead center position the air fuel mixture is forced from the compression face into and along the channels from the inlet end to the discharge end and are discharged as interacting jets into the bowl and increase the turbulence in the air fuel mixture in the bowl.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 1990Date of Patent: November 19, 1991Assignee: The University of British ColumbiaInventor: Robert L. Patent number: 4572123Abstract: A squish jet arrangement for an internal combustion engine is positioned on a piston member or cylinder head member thereof. A substantially cylindrical bowl opens onto the face of the member. At least one pair, and preferably a plurality of pairs, of squish jet passages are arranged to direct flows of gasses tangentially into the bowl. As first ones of the pairs of squish jet passages lie in a lower transverse plane than second ones of the pairs, a counter-rotating, bi-level swirl can be produced by the squish jet outlets. A squish jet arrangement is also provided with outlets of squish jet passages spaced above a lower surface of a bowl, and directed to eject coplanar flows of gasses therefrom, which intercept one another.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1984Date of Patent: February 25, 1986Assignee: The University of British ColumbiaInventor: Robert L.
