  • Patent number: 4777308
Abstract: A catalyst effective in hydrotreating and hydrocracking sulfur- and nitrogen-containing hydrocarbon feeds at low pressure. The catalyst is prepared by incorporating a platinum group metal such as palladium in ZSM-20 or in dealuminized zeolite Y. Unlike most palladium catalysts, this catalyst is not poisoned by nitrogen and sulfur in the feed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 6, 1983
Date of Patent: October 11, 1988
    Assignee: Mobil Oil Corp.
Inventors: Rene B. La Pierre, Robert L. Gorring
  • Patent number: 4447313
Abstract: A process which comprises a two-stage method for the preparation, from heavy residual oils, of a feedstock suitable for subsequent catalytic processing, such as for employment in FCC reactors. The firt process step comprises pentane deasphalting which results in substantial reduction of the refractory heavy metals present in the resid. The second step comprises removing any remaining metals by subjecting the treated heavy oil to a mild hydrocracking in the presence of a ZSM-5-type catalyst.

  • Patent number: 4292166
Abstract: A method is disclosed for converting an asphalt-free heavy hydrocarbon oil to high V.I. low pour point lube base stock and naphtha. The heavy oil is first catalytically dewaxed with a catalyst such as Ni-ZSM-5 and the dewaxed oil is then hydrocracked, or hydroconverted with a large pore zeolite catalyst such as dealuminized Y or ZSM-20 associated with palladium. The V.I. is controlled by the severity of the hydroconversion step.

  • Patent number: 4210521
Abstract: The present invention provides a process for catalytic upgrading of refractory hydrocarbon charge stocks, such as coker gas oil, to premium products including gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel and low sulfur cracking stock initially by catalytic hydrotreating and cascading the hydrotreater effluent, through a hydrocracking zone, without change in the pressure of the system, containing a catalyst which is characterized by a crystalline zeolite having a silica/alumina ratio greater than 12 and a constraint index of 1 to 12.

    Assignee: Mobil Oil Corporation
Inventors: Robert L. Gorring, Robert L. Smith
  • Patent number: 4153540
Abstract: Liquid products from retorting oil shale are upgraded to a total liquid suited to pipeline transport and containing increased amounts of the premium products gasoline through distillate fuel by hydrotreating to convert sulfur, oxygen, nitrogen and metal constituents and cascading the hydrotreater effluent through a hydrocracking reactor containing a catalyst which is characterized by a crystalline zeolite having a silica/alumina ratio greater than 12 and a constraint index of 1 to 12, for example zeolite ZSM-5.

  • Patent number: 4021334
Abstract: A stabilized lubricating oil resistant to oxidation and sludge formation upon exposure to an oxidative environment is prepared without forming undesirable color bodies therein by the steps (1) contacting the lubricating oil stock with a small amount of added elemental sulfur of from about 0.05 to about 1.0 percent by weight at a contact temperature of from about 25.degree. C. to about 130.degree. C. and (2) contacting the product of step (1) with hydrogen in the presence of alumina impregnated with at least about 10 weight percent MoO.sub.3 and at least about 2.5 weight percent CoO to remove any unreacted added elemental sulfur therefrom. The impregnated alumina catalyst of step (2) must have at least 50 percent of the pores with a pore diameter of 50 Angstrom Units or more.

  • Patent number: 3968024
Abstract: In the dewaxing of gas oils for the purpose of pour point reduction by catalytic hydrodewaxing using a catalyst comprising a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having a high silica to alumina ratio of at least 12 and a constraint index of about 1 to 12, carrying out the process at elevated temperature and pressure, including providing a hydrogen atmosphere in a preferred process configuration, the improvement of using a catalyst comprising said zeolite in microcrystalline from having a maximum crystal size of about 0.05 microns (M); and of operating the process at low pressures of up to about 500 psig, whereby not only is the catalytic activity increased but the catalyst aging rate is decreased and the product distribution is varied such that the process does not consume hydrogen but rather produces hydrogen or is at least neutral in this respect.
