    Abstract: It has been found that slimes from phosphate ore washer plants may be used to absorb sulfur dioxide from waste gases such as tail gases from sulfuric acid plants or waste gases generated from the combustion of fossil fuels. The sulfur dioxide is retained in the slimes as a bisulfite, subsequently oxidized to bisulfate, and eventually precipitated.
