  • Patent number: 6419424
Abstract: A tailer for transporting coiled pipe and assisting in the unwinding of the pipe for laying in a trench. A support cradle contacts the outer surface of the coil, thereby obviating the need for a reel. The cradle includes self-centering support rollers upon which the coil freely rotates during the pipe laying operation. Horizontal rollers are provided as a retainer for engaging the inner surface of the coil. The position of the retainer rollers is adjustable to accommodate a variety of coil diameters. To remove coil set from the pipe unwinding from the coil, a reforming assembly includes a straightener and rerounder. The pipe reforming assembly is mounted on rollers on the base of the trailer for translating back and forth to track the pipe during unwinding to maintain alignment. The rerounder and straightener are provided with a releasable gate and top portion respectively, to assist in the loading and unloading of the pipe in the reforming assembly.

  • Patent number: 5819886
Abstract: A trailer brake system provides an improved disc brake assembly with a caliper unit having first and second housings which contain hydraulically operated opposed pistons for engaging brake pads and providing relative movement toward and away from a brake rotor. The caliper unit is pivotally mounted to the stationary mounting bracket to allow for movement for opening a relief valve and release of the hydraulic pressure and firm braking engagement of the brake pads during the backing, non-braking mode. The dual piston arrangement provides for self-centering/self adjustment of the brake pads without the need for in and out axial movement of the caliper unit. The first and second housings also include internal passageways passing therebetween for delivering a high pressure hydraulic fluid to the first and second cylinders, the fluid providing simultaneous actuation of the opposed pistons. An opening is provided in the top of the caliper unit for accessing the brake pads.

  • Patent number: 5622241
Abstract: A trailer brake system provides an improved disc brake assembly with a caliper unit that includes a housing for mounting the pads for relative movement toward and away from the rotor and a cradle with spaced guide pins/tracks for securely supporting the housing at multiple, spaced points. The cradle includes a yoke having spaced arms and a cross piece for embracing the housing, and is independently mounted on a single pivot pin. First and second stops are provided on the bracket for engagement with the cross piece to limit the pivot movement of the caliper unit during vehicle backing and forward movement, respectively. Guide apertures are provided adjacent the distal end of the respective arms of the yoke and include an elastomeric bushing around the guide pins for cushioned in and out movement. The spaced guide tracks on the housing assist in providing axial stability.

  • Patent number: 5551538
Abstract: A trailer brake system includes a disc brake assembly for each wheel including apparatus to provide release of the brake pads from engagement with the rotor upon backing. In the preferred braking system, one master brake assembly is provided for braking one wheel and a slave brake assembly for braking a second wheel of the trailer; a self-contained hydraulic device being provided for moving the pads into and out of engagement with the rotor. Each brake assembly includes a stationary bracket for attachment to the axle and a caliper unit with the brake pads mounted by a single pivot pin on the bracket. A relief valve is engaged by the pivoting caliper unit to provide the release of the brake pads. The housing of the caliper unit is in two sections and mounted adjacent the top of the rotor.
