  • Patent number: 4392700
Abstract: A zero insertion force connector is disclosed for making an interconnection between a mother circuit board and a daughter circuit board. A receptacle assembly is mounted on the mother board and includes a housing with a carrier block movably mounted therein. A plurality of first terminals are fixed in the housing and a plurality of second terminals are fixed in the carrier block making a constant wiping engagement with the first terminals. In a two-piece embodiment a plug assembly is mounted on the daughter board and is receivable in the cavity of the receptacle assembly. A plurality of third terminals are mounted on the plug assembly and make a fixed engagement with the daughter board and are positioned to make a wiping engagement with the second terminals in the carrier block after the plug assembly is received in the receptacle assembly and the carrier block is moved relative thereto.

  • Patent number: 4390224
Abstract: A two-piece connector is disclosed for making zero insertion force interconnection between a mother board and a daughter board. The connector includes a plug mounted on the daughter board and a receptacle mounted on the mother board. A linear moving cam means acts on terminals carried by the receptacle to drive them normal to the elongated axis of the receptacle. When the receptacle terminals are opened by the cam means, the plug can be inserted into the receptacle either in a normal abutting fashion or end insertion by being moved laterally into the receptacle from one end. The terminals in the receptacle each have a blade which serves as the mating portion. The terminals carried by the plug each have a pair of closely spaced tines forming a pocket therebetween which receives a mating blade therein. The subject connector system is particularly useable for effecting a high density array interconnection between mother/daughter boards.

  • Patent number: 4349238
Abstract: A connector is disclosed for mounting integrated circuit packages onto a printed circuit board or the like. The connector has a housing which is mounted on the printed circuit board and secured thereto by the terminals it carries in at least one row of aligned and spaced apart terminals. A terminal actuating insert is mounted in the housing for each row of terminals and positioned to act directly upon the terminals of that row. The connector also includes an actuating retainer or cover member which is applied after the integrated circuit package is placed into the housing. The actuating retainer or cover member acts on the inserts to cause the terminals to be closed about the leads of the integrated circuit package and also rests against the integrated circuit package to secure it in the housing.
