  • Patent number: 5864881
Abstract: A method of tying neckties is presented whereby users can avoid the common frustration of repeated tying to achieve the desired lengths of the two ends of the tie to ultimately position the tie at a desired distance from neck down. The method includes tying the tie initially to the wearer's satisfaction, then marking the desired lengths, first on the wide end by removing the wide end from the knot while holding the narrow end in place against the wearer's neck, and then on the narrow end after retying by reinserting the wide end through the knot. A preferred embodiment of the invention includes markers made of commercially available flexible double-sided adhesive to hold the two ends of the tie together thereby providing the additional benefit of preventing flapping.

  • Patent number: 5146820
Abstract: The cutting apparatus and method of the present invention involve feeding a newsprint wrapper or any other sheet of paper downwardly along a planar path between two rotating cutters. Each of the cutters includes a planar blade member with an outer, sawtoothed cutting portion. In operation, the blade members are rotated about respective axes to move their cutting portions downwardly along arcuate paths that preferably pass through the path of the downwardly fed sheet. The arcuate paths of the cutting portions overlap and one of the cutting portions of the blade members is spaced farther from its rotational axis than the other. It is also moved tangentially faster about its axis than the cutting portion of the other blade member. In this manner, a cutting action is produced which first punctures and then subsequently tears or shreds a horizontal cut across the downwardly fed sheet to cut it into smaller pieces or segments.

  • Patent number: 5092748
Abstract: A combintion flow through pump and motor fluid pump delivery and metering system comprises a combination pump and motor housing defining a flow passage extending from and communicating from an inlet to an outlet, including a heat sink section comprising an elongated conduit in heat transfer contact with a mounting plate for electronic controls for absorbing heat therefrom, a pump section defined by an eccentric rotor positive displacement pump having an inlet and an outlet, and a motor section including a brushless D.C. motor coaxially disposed and directly coupled to the eccentric rotor, the motor having a tubular rotor through which a fluid flows and a stator exterior of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4641291
Abstract: A plurality of piezoelectric or magnetostrictive rectangular planar staves are held in side-by-side relation in a laminate assembly including insulative spacers. The widthwise polarity of adjacent pairs of the staves are inverted relative to each other. The acoustic centers of the staves are spaced apart a distance of approximately one-half of a wavelength of the operating frequency. Electrical connections are made to the opposite side edges of each of the staves through leads and bus wires. The array of staves define an active planar acoustic face for simultaneously sending and simultaneously receiving a pair of angularly separated beams of acoustic energy without electronically phasing or time delaying the signals transmitted to and from the individual staves and without mechanically rotating the array.

  • Patent number: 4154347
Abstract: Method and apparatus for palletizing articles delivered by an accumulator belt onto a pallet in transverse rows of alternating orientation, with the first and last transverse rows of each tier of articles on the pallet being of the same orientation, such palletization being accomplished by engaging and lifting the transverse row of an appropriate orientation which immediately follows the last transverse row of a first tier, loading a second tier of articles with the transverse row immediately following the lifted transverse row forming the first transverse row of such tier, reforming the lifted transverse row into a transverse row of the appropriate orientation by side shifting, and inserting the reformed lifted transverse row as the initial transverse row of a third tier of articles.
