Abstract: A roofing shingle has a folding nail-down or securing strip added to the edge of the shingle that is placed on the lower or down edge of the shingle. This folding nail-down strip is attached to the roof and then the shingle is folded up over the stip. After a row of shingles have been secured across the roof, then a second (and additional rows thereafter) are placed on the top edge of the first row. The folding nail-down strip is attached to the roof over the top edge of the first row, and the shingle is then folded up and over covering the attachment strip. Rows are similarly added until the roof is completely shingled.
