  • Publication number: 20060174749
Abstract: A turn-on tuning system which uses threaded tuning rims in place of lugs used by conventional drums, and a spherical acoustic chamber to provide both acoustic and visual improvements over prior art instruments. The turn-on tuning system uses a drum head which is secured to the drum when sandwiched between a threaded drum shell and a threaded rim. The drum is tuned by rotating the rim to increase pressure on the drumhead. A further feature of the invention is the spherical acoustic chamber which replaces the drum shell. The spherical acoustic chamber provides an enhanced audio quality, and also provides a housing for electronic equipment which may be held within the spherical chamber. In addition, the spherical chamber provides numerous visual improvements in that it allows for lighting which may be programmed for entertainment purposes.

  • Patent number: 6634864
Abstract: A capillary pump is provided for producing pressurized vapor emissions, having various layers that assist in creating optimal conditions to accomplish a high maximum fluid flow rate and pressurization. Heat and liquid/vapor flows in opposing directions in pathways within the layers. The pump includes a vaporization layer having small-sized pores and with a thickness and area to reduce viscous drag of flowing liquid and vapor. An ejection layer is also included having one or more openings and an integrated heat transfer portion for conveying heat and providing a low fluidic drag area. The pump may include an insulation layer to shield the liquid in a supply area from heat and/or a preheat layer to raise the temperature of the liquid prior to the liquid entering the vaporization layer. A coating at least partially surrounds the outer surfaces of the pump to allow vapor pressure to increase.

  • Patent number: 5730336
Abstract: A valve for a flexible liquid-container has a hollow cylindrical body including a bowl-shaped or trough-shaped diaphragm, circumferentially sealed to an inside wall of the tubular body. A convex side of the diaphragm faces an inlet side of the valve and a concave surface of the diaphragm faces an outlet side of the valve. The diaphragm has at least one slit extending therethrough. A cylindrical tube-spring of elliptical cross-section inserted into the tubular body exerts tension on the slit for holding the slit closed when the valve is not in use.

  • Patent number: 5347438
Abstract: A lamp includes a bowl shaped reflector having an elongated aperture in its base for mounting a light source. A light source including a filament enclosed in a transparent envelope is mounted in the aperture such that when the light source is illuminated light is projected from the front of the reflector and also escapes through the aperture to the rear of the reflector. A lamp housing extending behind the reflector is transparent and includes a color filter material. Light projected from the front of the reflector provides light for illumination, while light escaping through the aperture in the reflector is transmitted through the color filter material and provides a safety signal.

  • Patent number: 5195500
Abstract: An oven device (4) is adapted for use with a source of heat (24), such as a camp stove, and a cooking utensil (6), such as a covered (12) pot or pan (8), positioned over and separated from the heat source by a heat shield (20). The oven device includes a high temperature flexible, foldable convection dome, such as one made of aluminized fiberglass, having a vertically oriented sidewall (34) and a top (36). The top has a central vent opening (40). The convection dome is supported on the lid covering the pan by a number of radially extending pockets (42). The material from which the convention dome is made of is flexible enough to permit the convection dome to be folded up into a compact rectangular configuration but stiff enough to allow the pockets to support the convection dome above the lid of the pan with the sidewalls of the convection dome spaced apart from the sides of the pan.

  • Patent number: 4822337
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing for the insulin needs of a diabetic individual utilizes blood flow in the digestive tract as the operative variable. Such blood flow is monitored and when deviations from a base level are sensed insulin is provided in measured amounts. The blood flow may be monitored on a continuous basis to provide real-time analysis and delivery. The system may be under microprocessor control, and may include recording means to allow a record of blood flow and insulin delivery to be made either for insulin need computation or for later review.

  • Patent number: 4800879
Abstract: A disposable vascular occluding device for temporarily stopping or interrupting blood flow in veins or arteries of the body during vascular surgery and emergency trauma surgery is constructed with two plastic arms connected at one end by a hinge for pivoting the arms towards and away from each other and connected at an end opposite the hinged end by a toothed latch for releasably securing the plastic arms in a closed position with inner surfaces thereof confronting each other. The inner surfaces of the plastics arms have semi-circular cavities formed therein which are shaped to conform to the blood vessel to be occluded. The inner surfaces of the plastic arms are lined by a pair of partially-inflated soft plastic balloons, centered in the cavities, one of which is further inflatable by means of an ordinary syringe through a valve in one of the plastic arms. The device facilitates occlusion of a blood vessel with minimal or no traumatization of the wall of the blood vessel.
