  • Patent number: 5792859
Abstract: Novel intermediate compounds of formula IV, V, VI, VII and VIII which are useful for the preparation of steroids of the formula ##STR1## wherein the substituents are defined in the specification.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 2, 1996
Date of Patent: August 11, 1998
    Assignee: Roussel Uclaf

  • Patent number: 5723638
Abstract: The invention is drawn to a process for the preparation of a steroid of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen or alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and theo A, B, C, and D ring system has at least one double bond and is optionally substituted by at least one optionally protected hydroxy, optionally protected keto, halogen, alkyl and alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and alkenyl and alkynyl of 2 to 4 carbon atoms by reacting the corresponding 17-ketosteroid with a compound of the formula ##STR2## and then by reacting the resulting compound with an aryl sulfenyl halide. The intermediate produced then undergoes rearrangement followed by epimerization with a strong base to obtain a mixture of the corresponding sulfoxide diastereoisomers which is reacted with a thiophilic compound. The intermediate produced undergoes acid hydrolysis to provide the compound of formula I.

  • Patent number: 4949602
Abstract: The wrench is for use with a bolt having an axial bore in which is located a pin. The pin is rotatable within the bore until the bolt is tensioned near its elastic limit, at which point rotation of the pin relative to the bolt is restrained. The wrench includes a body (12) drivingly carrying via dogs (20) a first socket (16) for engaging and driving a nut on the bolt. A second socket (28) engages a head on the pin. The first and second sockets (16,28) are connected to a common drive, the connection of the second socket (28) being in a coupling in which a pin (46) engages in a detent in a cam cylinder (50).When rotation of the pin relative to the bolt becomes restrain bed, the coupling (46,50) disengages, allowing the cam cylinder (50) to be urged outwardly of the housing (12) by a spring (60), to cause a warning indicator (58) to be displayed.

  • Patent number: 4181379
Abstract: The invention provides a bearing structure with a lubricant circulation that does not depend on gravity. An absorbent lubricant reservoir contacts a conical shaft portion so as to convey lubricant from the reservoir to a ball or like bearing. Lubricant passing the bearing is flung off a rotating flange by centrifugal force to a collector and then fed back by wicks to the reservoir. Air circulation is also provided by fan blades on the flange drawing air through the bearing from the reservoir side and returning it through passages around the bearing.
