Publication number: 20060145482Abstract: A powertrain for transmitting power in a vehicle includes a prime mover having a relatively slow transient response, and a storage device for storing energy in a predetermined form. A transmission includes an input driveably connected to the prime mover and an output driveably connected to vehicle drive wheels, producing a range of ratios of a speed of the output to a speed of the input that varies from negative to positive and includes zero. An energy conversion device, driveably connected to the prime mover and drive wheels, converts rotational power transmitted to the energy conversion device from the wheels and the prime mover to a form of energy that can be stored in the storage device, and drives the wheels using energy supplied to the energy conversion device from the storage device. A control device alternately transmits energy from the storage device to the energy conversion device, and transmits energy from the energy conversion device to the storage device.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 6, 2005Publication date: July 6, 2006Inventors: Bob Roethler, Cliff Carlson, Robert Lippert, Ron Kepner, John Brevick

Publication number: 20050183001Abstract: Architecture that facilitates the creation of a customized document with embedded or linked code that can be run on a client or a server without invoking the host application. A programming model makes it transparent to the code whether it is running on the client or the server. The programming model automatically “scales” to provide more features while running the document on the client and fewer features when running on the server. A transparent data island is automatically generated for the customized document that is embedded in the document and can be edited while requiring only a subset of all components of the host application to be running. A data binding mechanism is provided wherein changes that are made to the transparent data island while the host is not running can be moved back into the host document content when the document is reopened by the full host application.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 13, 2004Publication date: August 18, 2005Inventors: Eric Carter, Andrew Clinick, Robert Lippert, Mohit Gupta

Publication number: 20050183097Abstract: A programming model that takes general purpose APIs and machine-generates new programming models based on user defined schemas that provide the developer with data and view separation, and a way to communicate to the host application using the domain of the problem being solved. The system comprises a schema component that the developer uses to define a schema that includes one or more domain terms related to the problem to be solved, and a mapping component that uses the schema to search and map selected constructs from one or more generic host application APIs to the corresponding problem domain terms. Once the mapping is completed, a generating component generates a new API that is used by a host application to facilitate developing an application document using terms related to the domain of the problem to be solved.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 13, 2004Publication date: August 18, 2005Inventors: Eric Carter, Andrew Clinick, Robert Lippert, Mohit Gupta

Patent number: 5715996Abstract: A fuel injection system is disclosed having a fuel injection nozzle which receives pressurized fuel pulses from a source. The nozzle includes a body having a tubular nozzle body with a longitudinally extending opening extending therethrough. A valve seat is located between the upstream and downstream ends of the longitudinal opening in the valve body for engagement with a valve member to thereby regulate the flow of fuel through the opening. A downstream stop member includes a hollow cylinder with a diametrical member extending across one end. The cylindrical stop member is received over the downstream end of the nozzle body with the diametrically extending member disposed across the downstream end of the longitudinal opening to thereby limit the outward range of movement of the valve member from the opening. As a result, the valve member and the downstream end of the longitudinally extending opening define an annular fuel metering orifice therebetween to regulate the flow of fuel from the nozzle.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1995Date of Patent: February 10, 1998Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Richard Lloyd Cooper, James Zizelman, Michael Raymond Salemi, Gary Robert Lippert, Jeffrey Mark Noll
