The number of blades each have a number of cutting edges that run parallel to a blade ring axis, and which enclose a working chamber. The intermediate product is rotated about the blade ring axis and is aligned in such a way that it lies substantially parallel to the blade ring axis and is pressed by centrifugal force against the cutting edges.

    Abstract: A method for sharpening the cutting knives of a knife ring chipper, which includes a knife ring and a number of knife units, the units in turn containing knives and holding plates. The knife ring is removed from the knife ring chipper, the knife units of the knife ring chipper are removed from the knife ring and the knife units are disassembled. The dull knives are moved to a first buffer station and are stored and then moved to a grinder and sharpened. The sharpened knives are moved to a second buffer station and are stored, and the sharpened knives are then mounted onto holding plates in knife units. The knife units are incorporated into a knife ring and the knife ring is incorporated into a knife ring chipper.

    Abstract: There is provided a knife-ring remover for chips having a knife ring arranged rigidly on an axis. The knife ring has a collar of knives and first and second bearing rings concentric to the axis. A housing, that partly encloses the knife ring, has a rear wall, an essentially cylindrical sheath and a door disposed opposite to the rear wall for driving out a rotor. The rotor has a pair of front walls that bear a plurality of blades. The rotor is mounted in a rotatable manner on the axis. First and second abrasion sealing rings are disposed in the regions of the first and second bearing rings. Each abrasion sealing ring has an inner axial edge that lies at least approximately in the same plane perpendicular to the axis as an axial inner edge of the corresponding bearing ring. One abrasion sealing ring is connected to the door and the other is attached directly or indirectly to the rear wall.

    Abstract: The invention concerns a device for sharpening of knives, which are mounted in the knife ring of a chip cutter and whose cutting edges run essentially parallel to the knife ring axis. Several grinding tools can be run intermittently and simultaneously in the direction of the knife ring axis in order to sharpen individual knives The knife ring stands still during the sharpening and is rotated around its own axis during the pauses between sharpening corresponding to the distribution of the knives over the periphery of the knife ring. Any grinding tool sharpens any knife in such a way that the desired total (amount of) removed grinding material is achieved with the last grinding tool in the peripheral direction of the knife ring.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for sharpening the knives of a chipper, with the knives remaining in a knife basket during sharpening, and the knife basket being removed from the chipper and placed in a knife basket carrier in which it is rotatably mounted. The knife basket is first locked against rotation, and then a sharpening device, such as a grinding mechanism, is moved in a direction parallel to the knife basket axis along a first knife or group of knives for purposes of sharpening. After sharpening the first knife or group of knives, the knife basket is unlocked and the sharpening device and knife basket are rotated relative to each other, with the sharpening device proceeding to a new working position for sharpening a further knife or group of knives. The above cycle is repeated until all knives have been sharpened. The knife basket is then reinstalled in the chipper.
