    Abstract: A system for effecting transactions, typically retail transactions, by using account information stored on a computing device, such as a cell phone, wherein the computing device is placed on an optical reader at the merchant's establishment. The computing device generates a pattern, such as a bar code, on a visual display, which can be read by the merchant's optical reader. The display encodes account number and other information for the transaction. The merchant's optical reader also includes a display, which can be read by the computing device by using the cell phone camera. The merchant's display includes transaction amount and other information allowing updating of account information in the computing device. The computing device may include security codes and/or a fingerprint reader to allow access to the account information.

    Abstract: A personal card and method of transaction validation for the protection of credit card use in malls, restaurants, telephone and Internet orders and use of ATM. The card generates a coded validation number based on a time code, a cardholder's PIN, and the amount of purchase in accordance with a unique code process for that particular personal card. The coded validation number is different for each transaction to prevent fraudulent use of the validation number. The cardholder provides the merchant the coded validation number in place of the usual static three or four digit verification number now in use. The merchant reports the transaction using normal reporting equipment and processes. The bank then validates the transaction by duplicating the time code and using the known PIN to determine the transaction amount. A method is disclosed to generate a time code by periodically rotating the columns and rows of a two dimensional matrix.

Account information is maintained in the cell phone and in the vending machine and may be communicated to the PPC at a later time after the transaction. The wireless link may be Bluetooth®, Zigbee®, infrared, or other short range wireless technology.

The networked computing device provides an encrypted validation code to a merchant for each transaction. The validation code is uniquely computed for each transaction and may be based on transaction time and/or other transaction data. The code algorithm is unique for each cardholder. Only the bank transaction center has knowledge of the particular algorithm for each cardholder. When transaction details such as transaction dollar amount are included in the generation of the code, the code may be used to validate the reported transaction dollar amount. An algorithm is disclosed for generating a unique code based on time and/or transaction dollar amount.

    Abstract: A system and method for activating a parking meter by utilizing a cell phone. An account is established with the parking authority, and the cell phone is used to contact the parking authority, identify the meter and service desired, obtain a code, and enter the code in the meter to initiate the service. In one embodiment, the code is generated using a time dependent encrypted clock method. In one embodiment, the parking meter may communicate with the cell phone on a wireless link to start or stop the meter, the wireless link may be BLUETOOTH®, ZIGBEE®, infrared, or other short range wireless link.     Abstract: A merchandise ordering system utilizing a cell phone for communicating order information and a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) device for customer location and identification. Orders are placed using the cell phone prior to arrival at the retail establishment. RFID customer location information indicating proximity of the customer to the retail establishment is combined with the order information to execute the order. At order pickup, the RFID information or cell phone information may be used to identify the customer for delivery of the order. An automated call center may handle multiple retail establishments or multiple chains of retail establishments. A method is disclosed for placing orders using a block of phone numbers. In one embodiment, computer controlled order delivery trays are used to match the orders with the RFID tag supplied identification and deliver the order to the customer.
