Abstract: A Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) device and method of operation of the VoIP device are provided. A local telephone number serving a location of the VoIP device is stored in a database of a VoIP service provider. A fixed address is associated with the local telephone number. The local telephone number is provided to an Automatic Location Information database associated with an emergency response system.

Abstract: A method of routing telephone calls is disclosed that includes receiving Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) packets at an integrated access device (IAD) from a VoIP remote worker feature server. The IAD communicates with a first private branch exchange (PBX) located at a first location. The VoIP packets are related to a VoIP call intended for a telephone number assigned by a second PBX at a second location.

Abstract: A computer readable medium stores a computer program that provisions an announcement to be played to a requester. The computer readable medium stores and include code segments. A storing code segment stores multiple announcements. A receiving code segment receives a request to send the announcement to be played to the requester to an announcement device, in response to a determination that the announcement is not stored locally at the announcement device. A sending code segment sends the announcement to the announcement device in response to the request.

When a call is received at a switch and an announcement is required, the announcement is played to the caller by an announcement device if the particular announcement file is stored locally. If the announcement is not stored locally, a request is sent to the centralized recorded announcement unit to retrieve the announcement file and play the announcement to the caller. Both the request and the announcement file are sent via a packed-switched network.

Abstract: A system and method for facilitating packetized calls between managed networks are disclosed. In one embodiment of a system incorporating teachings of the present disclosure, a mediation server may be associated with and maintain an information store holding a first collection of connection information for a first plurality of devices associated with a first managed internet protocol network and a second collection of connection information for a second plurality of devices associated with a second managed internet protocol network. The devices may be capable of receiving voice over internet protocol calls and the connection information for a given device may include a unique address and a call receipt rule.
