    Abstract: Control systems and methods for limiting the amount of input signal power that may be provided to a transmitter or transceiver unit within a satellite-based data communications system are disclosed. In one innovative aspect a DC current into a power amplifier provided within the transmitter or transceiver unit is monitored, either directly or indirectly, to determine when the power amplifier is approaching the limits of its normal or prescribed range of operation, and thereafter an application of input signal power to the transmitter or transceiver unit may be limited or discontinued.
